Profile difference between Pure Pro and Techkeys.us
« on: Wed, 18 December 2013, 04:49:44 »
I've recently received two new keys for my Pure Pro (Hammer and Sickle and Radiation Symbol). I've replaced the escape key and back space key but they have a lower profile than the rest of the keys. It's not a huge issue but it's something I want to understand more.

Are the pure pro keys height none standard?
What type of keys would I have to buy to replace the entire lot if I wanted them the same height?
Once the Raindrop set goes backup on GB then I'll be buying a set of those will this be an issue on the Pure Pro?

Most of the regular novelty keys at techkeys are made by signature plastics and are SP DCS profile. It is similar to cherry profile but not quite the same.

Thanks for all the replies. I'll look out for cherry size key sets then.

Yeah, SP profile is a little shorter than Cherry IIRC.

Aren't GMK keys Cherry profile?

Yes GMK is the same as Cherry.

Well if you want all the keys to match you can get in on any of the SP DCS group buys, they are really common around here, if you want that profile but if you want cherry there are also group buys for those you want to look for the term GMK , those are cherry profile key caps, or older cherry sets come up in classifieds as well.

Is there anyway or sorting the GBs by ones that aren't closed?

No not really. Sometimes they update the title to reflect the status but not always.

Welcome to Geekhack!

The original keys are probably OEM profile - these are generally higher than Cherry, DSA or DCS profile keycaps.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I think in the future I'm going to stay away from OEM sized keys, they're a bit too high for my liking. The techkeys profile is actually just right for me.

Also thanks for the welcome! Is there any way of getting rid of the captcha on post? I assure you I'm human!

Don't be asking for 'techkeys' profile; no one will understand what you're talking about.

I think it's either 5 or 10 posts before the captcha goes away
