[WTS] Wood 60% case with matching wrist wrest and key cap puller
« on: Tue, 05 November 2013, 18:14:56 »
Up for sale is a custom wood 60% case I made for my Pure.  Kenmai9 just got the prototype in the mail and these were done with a slightly different, slightly improved, IMO, production method.

The woods used are Red Gum and Purpleheart and are finished in Danish oil and a mix of beeswax and carnuba wax, aside from the puller which is finished in Danish oil and a turning finish.  The case contains brass stand offs and screws are included.  Installed in the bottom of the case is a thin cork pad to which black suede leather has been adhered to.  One note, the far left bottom standoff is off by just a hair, so getting the screw in is tricky.  Every standoff can be used, just the far left one will take a little more futzing about to get the screw lined up.

Now for pictures:

I am asking $155 + shipping for the matched set.  I am open to some trades, like key caps, Clacks, and so on, but I will not value Clacks at more than $40-50 in a trade1.  I may be willing to give a discount for the right person, but, for the most part, I'm pretty firm on the price.

Just as a word of warning, I can only guarantee that this fits a Pure since that's what I have on hand.  It should fit a Poker or plateless GH60 since they use the same standoffs and are supposed to have the same sized PCB.  If it doesn't work, I'm more than willing to rework some parts to ensure that it fits your PCB.

1Some things I'm interested in trading for:

- Octopink, P1 Purple, Gummyrot or Gumrot, or Hardcore White CC Skull.  Like I said, I refuse to be a part of the Clack insanity and markups, so I will not value them more than $50 in a trade.  I would love one, but I believe you should add value to something you sell and don't think it's fair to CC, who does the awesome work, for someone else to profit from his hard work.

- Battlefield 4

- Dolch cap set

- SoWaRe cap set

- Olivetti cap set

- Hyperfuse cap set or modifiers

- Lily cap set

- GMK purple modifiers

- GirlDC Ghostbro

- HHKB Pro2

- MX Whites

- Other interesting things you think I might like.

Thanks!  If it doesn't sell, I'll probably just keep it and use it for my GH60 or some other 60% that comes along.  I do try and keep my stuff more affordable while also compensating me for materials and time.

Looking really nice. If only this was a lighter color.

Are you close to the cypress/fullerton area? Asking just in case I buy something in the future and want to save on shipping.

I'm in the HB/Costa Mesa/Newport area (pretty much the corner where all three meet).  I make my way up to Fullerton from time to time because they have some cool little bars or when I want to check out the hackerspace and hope no one is getting drunk while operating a drill press/metal lathe/grinder/etc.

Thanks.  And on the environment friendly note, I do my best to work with only sustainable woods.  I'd prefer to use wood that I know is being harvested through sustainable logging methods, but finding the provenance of wood is almost impossible.  As such, I just stick with species that are sustainable and renewable.

Much respect...  I love wood products and have many wood items.  I have some amazing hand made shelves and cutting boards and such.  I really appreciate wood workers who respect the sourcing of their wood.  I often will make buying decisions based on if the wood used is certified.  GJ...

Beautiful.

Don't take this the wrong way, but looking at your case immediately brought to mind the wood paneling on an Atari 2600. Feels retro-ish to me, in a great way.

Definitely not taking that the wrong way.  I can see where you get that.  The simple wood finish with dark plastic with crisp geometry and lines.  It does have some things in common with that.  Different design aesthetic, but a similar contrast and idea.  And the dark, muted wood tones with noticeable grain patterning and black plastic is definitely a retro aesthetic, just the shape and style has been updated.

A lot of the design elements I like are from Danish modern, mid-century modern, and modern design which emphasize clean lines and letting the material (wood) shine through, so some of that shows through in the stuff I do.  Of course, I also like to add a little more contrast to bring more attention to the wood than those designs tend to.

I do have some in my sig, but you're right, I probably should start something elsewhere.

Thanks.  I'm still waiting on the new stuff to come from China since the last seller misstated the size of the clasps.  At least they were awesome and gave me a refund and let me keep them.  Hopefully I can finish it in the near future.  I really do want to get it done for you soon.

No reason it shouldn't hold up well long term unless you're one to abuse something.  The only potential change is a color shift from direct UV light exposure, but that's normal for wood.

Just wondering about the wood case. Have you tried using it? I feel like it'll be too hard for long period use.

I'm using a wood case currently since I love the feel of a wood case so much.  I've been wanting to make wood cases for some of my other keyboards, but need access to a laser cutter for the designs I've been thinking about before I can do so.

And how do you mean too hard?  It' provides a nice solid base for the case.  I feel it's a nicer case than the plastic cases in feel by far.  I haven't tried an aluminum case yet, so I can't comment, but it definitely makes for a nicer feel and sound than a plastic case.

You can hit up KenMai9 and ask impressions he has on his case.  His doesn't have the cork and suede insert this case does since I thought about it after I already sent him the case, so I couldn't custom make an insert for his.

I almost never do the standard "GLWS" stuff on people's threads, but it pains me to see this case still listed.  Someone should buy it :)  This is true hand-made custom and looks amazing.

I get compliments on my Poker with Nubbinator's wood case every time I post pictures or at work. People literally double take and ask me about my keyboard at work whenever people walk by. This case is a stunner, for sure. I couldn't recommend another custom case for a Poker after using this one. Y'all need to smarten up and get this unique case. Do you really want another aluminum case that 100 other people have?

Buy this case!
