Anyone Steel Series 6gv2?
« on: Fri, 27 December 2013, 08:25:50 »
Hey there,

I'm using Filco's for last 3 years..i own Browns..and got 2 other Blues(MJ1 and 2) but don't use the blues anymore. It's hard for me to find or order these keyboards anymore(my countries customs is ****)
I really want to try a linear switch and all i can find is Steel Series 6gv2 with mx blacks(we don't have reds edition)

So, how is the quality? I know its much cheaper than filcos :) Oh and by the way, i use filco tenkeyless...I'm used to use Tenkeyless since its better that your mouse is much closer to your hand...
Should i buy it? I can't even try it in the shop...

Good quality board, built solid.

Only problem is the odd layout with the bigass Enter Key and the tiny right shift. Nothing wrong with them, but you're going to have a bad time if you want to replace the keys.

unless they have some unforeseeable downside (like they're actually made of cream cheese cunningly disguised as ABS)

ss 6gv2 was my first board and I don't regret buying it - it was a great board to game with.  I wouldn't call it "much cheaper than filcos".  Only issue you would have with it is trying to find replacement keycaps if that is important to you.

Tis a good quality board for the money, its heavy, good solid plate etc, but as mentioned, odd layout and weird enter key.

For gaming it's ok - but mine had HORRIBLE keycap printing - the worst of any board I've ever owned.

You can get around the displaced short right shift by using 'sticky keys' when typing. The keyboard feels like it was forged out of cast iron. I would highly recommend this keyboard if you are looking for a no-frills tank that gets the job done well. I prefer it over the ducky zero w/ blacks for its more solid feel and reassuring clack when bottoming out.

Edit: no wonder - they used a special iron-infused plastic case according to the SS website!

Small backspace and non standard keycaps

Stay away from it

That is the 7g not the 6gv2, which has a standard backspace.
