I am no longer posting in great finds because I find it getting ridiculous. Prices are shooting through the roof. $799 asking price for one of the worst layouts in PC history? If you had to collect stuff, why not collect BNIB PCJr keyboards for like $20 shipped? Am pretty sure IBM Produced more Model F XTs than PCJrs. For $799 you could probably buy up all the NIB PCJr keyboards in the country.

Just wait till recession comes by. All the geekhackers and collectors who previously overpaid will be forced to disgorge their treasures at unfavorable prices once they lose their jobs and need money. You've seen this over the past year as well, where some geekhackers were forced to liquidate collections due to poverty.

Speaking of which, how come everyone in these threads have both money to spend and the space to keep their keyboards? I thought the US economy was only doing so-so with high unemployment still; from the bidding madness of geekhackers it would seem that most of you geeks have fantastic jobs and live in mansions. And I thought they outsourced most technical jobs to Chinese production, Indian software developers and Filipino technical support long ago. Don't tell me you folks are getting paid fat rates from NSA for helping them spy online?

The protective plastic is still on the badge. Its' not too hard to believe it got scratched legitimately during or before the owner took it out of the packaging for photos.

I think that it was a couple of specimens that with verifiable provenance from the Gutenberg Project that brought in that kind of money.

Otherwise I would be surprised if any had sold over about $150.

Honestly I think a lot of this could be cured by just having a seperate sub/forum for (non-store) ebay or other one offs, or go the other way and provide something similar for duplicatable deals. Both can be "great finds" in their own way, but having to sift through a page of "Vintage Apple Split with genuine 1988 air sealed inside -- bid still under $125 with only nine days to go!" when all you're looking for is a more reasonably priced TKL can be annoying. I'm sure the reverse is true when you're hunting for rare and/or unique pieces at below market.
