CM Quickfire TK Modding/Remapping Advice?
« on: Mon, 13 January 2014, 18:04:18 »
I'm thinking about trying to mod my CM Quickfire TK because I'm slightly disappointed with the way the numpad enter key doesn't work when the arrow keys are active. Relevant thread here. CM have since fixed this bug but even though I only bought my kb recently, it must have been old stock and has the bug. CM have said that it's not firmware updateable.

I assume that I'd need to change the controller.

I have seen controller replacement boards but only for the Quickfire Rapid, not the TK.

I'd also love to add some layers so I can have arrow keys on the home row, better media key locations, and hardwired dvorak layout if possible.

I haven't opened the keyboard yet, does anyone have any advice on how hard this would be? Should I even bother trying? Any relevant links to information?

It's also possible that I could try going through ps2 (I think this board works with ps2, haven't tried it yet), and use Soarer's converter to do the remapping. The trouble with that is that I doubt any keypresses are sent for the numpad enter key when the arrows are active.

I'm pretty sure when I opened my QFTK the controller was soldered to the PCB, but don't quote me on that. This would mean any sort of layout remapping would have to be done outside of the keyboard.

It is soldered. Just took it apart and took some photos.

50845-1
50847-2
50849-3

Gotta look up the chips now, I think the smaller one is an AT24C128 serial EEPROM? It's marked "ATMLH218 02CM Y 1H6492DA".

Anyone know what the larger one is? It's marked "TMU3130G 1232", with a symbol that I don't know...

Maybe there's some way to program the controller in-circuit, like an Arduino. More research necessary.

Looks like it has flash memory, but I'm not sure you can program this without proprietary hardware programmer.

Too hard. So I've kind of decided to go with the converter...

But...

I can't seem to get it to show up on ps2.

http://www.cmstorm.com/en/products/keyboards/quickfiretk/ doesn't mention ps2, but in a review here and on some other sites, it says it has nkro over ps2.

Can someone who has a CM Quickfire TK confirm that it does work through ps2? It's just totally dead for me on ps2, no backlights or anything.

Have you turned your computer off and on with the keyboard plugged in, PS/2 is not plug and play like USB.

Yep, I've done that, it just doesn't seem to like ps2.

Can someone  else who has  one of these please try it out over ps2 and tell me if they could get it working?

Thanks for checking kmiller8.

Damn, back to the drawing board. I thought for sure this kb would work on ps2.
