So AT&T finally rolled out Kitkat to my telephono. I really like the ability to use whichever launcher I choose, using KK google experience launcher at the moment, like it so far. I'm now on the hunt for a cooler looking text message app to replace this ugly Samsung one..

Have a look at Hello sms. Maybe you'll like it =).

thanks Gliss, I tried Hello...ended up using Textra, I like the black/gray/green theme they got going on...

It's all good :) Glad you found something you enjoy using. I've tried so many different ones that the simple style of Hello sms really suits me well. It has a "night mode" too, but I like the white better than black for reading.
I'll have a look at Textra.

Edit: Looks a little like chompsms or handycent to me. Chomp and handy ended up having too many features for me, but used them both a lot back in the day ^^.

Is there a way to enable sending gifs in textra? Says there is a maximum size.

I'm kinda noob to it, but checkout Settings > MMS > MMS Settings > Send Size Limit?

I highly recommend TextSecure if you're looking for an alternate SMS/MMS app.  The latest version uses data automatically if it detects another TextSecure user (like iMessage does on the iPhone).  It automatically exchanges keys and encrypts text messages between you and other encryption users.  It also protects all of your SMS/MMS messages behind a password.  You can unlock it for a period of time and quick-lock if you need to block someone from accessing your messages in a hurry.

Also- if you used TextSecure before, you probably had issues with group messaging.  It works now. :)

so i have 4.4.3 on my S4 and this autocomplete crap it does on chrome is annoying as ****.

i'll type g for geekhack and it goes to gg. or a for apple and it goes aa. and if i continue to type the word (ge for example) it'll continue to do it (gege)

anybody else experiencing this? it started after the 4.4.3 update.

I have the same phone, checkout My device > Language and input > press the gear icon next to the Samsung keyboard (if using the default keyboard) > Predictive text? Most of that sweet stuff is in that area..

that's some cock-up with the Samsung keyboard. that doesn't happen at all on stock Android, with the stock Android keyboard.

alright, predictive text is off. works better now.

other than that hiccup, i really like this phone. i just wish it didnt have so many apps that are useless to me. im thinking of getting a nexus 5, but the fact this phone is plastic keeps me here. i tend to drop my phone a lot. and stuff like apple's iphone doesn't last me long. and i hate cases.

I'm the exact same way, I also hate phone cases and drop my phone quite a bit. The Nexus 5 does look pretty swaggy, it runs pure Android and no Samsung bloatware. My buddy has it and really likes it, a tad smaller than the S4 if I remember correctly..

if it's any help, the Nexus 5 is plastic construction also, and has a Gorilla Glass 3 screen (not like that makes much difference really, glass is glass, and the Gorilla Glass 2 on my Nexus 4 got scratches very very easily).

i actually found the S4 to be pretty big when I first got it (came from an iPhone 5) but now I've gotten used to the size. Pure Android is the reason I'd get it, although I am enjoying this samsung remote thing.

that's the thing - no removable battery on a Nexus phone since the Galaxy Nexus. I've not found it to be a problem though, and I was initially very against the idea of a non-removable battery
