For me it's Android. I have a Motorola Defy and I'm pretty happy with how much you can customize everything even without flashing custom firmware.

iOS dev and user here. I've owned nearly a dozen android phones and used every version since 1.6 (and still have my nexus one) but keep coming back to the iPhone. Android ics is great, but the iPhone 4S camera and iOS smoothness has won me over again.   I've used windows phone 7 for a while as well and have nothing but good to say about it, if they had some nicer hardware And a few more of my favorite apps, I'd consider one as my daily.

Android. I'm am very opposed to apple products in general (cept the iPod. that was pretty good design there). Android looks nice and gives me the flexibility I need as more of a power user. I had a older windows phone and It was really bad compared to the android. It's really damaged windows reputation in terms of mobile OS.

Not sure why you would quote HW in an OS/SW comparison...

Personally Android is the way to go for me.
Easy development, tons of support, streamlined without bloatware, and completely open.
A roomate has a WP7, and it is a slick interface/OS, but it seems that APPs aren't there just yet.

I like to tinker and break things, so Android is the best choice for me.  Script Manager is a fantastic (FREE) app that I use after any ROM update to get my evo set up the way I like it in no time.

I prefer the smoothness of iOS. I like to tinker, mod, and root, but when it comes to my mobile device I just want something that works fast and works well. The iPhone 4s has a good relationship between hardware and software and it just works.

I mention it mostly because I can't get the hardware I want with an android phone. I've used a variety of them, and none I've tried came close to the iPhone 4 build quality. There is a lot to love about android, but my preferences for hardware don't jive with what is available right now.

EDIT:
For the record, the iPhone is not my ideal either, but as close as I have found. After using an XperiaX10 (awesome camera there as well) and the Nexus S (which I have bought and sold twice now) I really do prefer a 4 inch screen, I've found anything bigger to be "too big" and anything smaller a bit too hard to type on. I'd also consider a portrait qwerty phone, (I've had a few blackberries and a nokia E71 which I have loved) but no one seems to want to make one that's any good and GSM.

EDIT2:
I have the same feeling about WP7, the applications are not getting the attention they need from developers. Most of the big names were there, Netflix, evernote, shazzam(i think) and rdio, but the applications themselves were not up to the standard of the Android/iOS versions.

Since iOS 5 I have not opened iTunes once, and before that I only plugged in to do system updates. I am a streaming music user though, and use rdio/last.fm, so I never really had a need to.

Yeah I haven't look at it as of late, but was a little upset when it didn't have certain APPs that aren't HUGE but aren't little either.

Anyone developed on WP7? How is it for rules and what not?

I don't exactly agree about "Easy Development". It took me a while to get used to the android SDK. It's well documented, but its not very thorough on how things should be used. I've had so many many errors. But yeah I finally got my app up on market after quite some time of tinkering.

Fair enough, but with appinventor and some of the other tech, its more accessible for 'noobs'.
But I like most that it's here is the SDK/platform, go nuts!
Opposed to other SDK/platforms where there are so many conventions and strict rules.

BTW what APP did you release?!

A small minigame. I was building the engine up for a rhythm game, but haven't had the time to develop further. Also I was in the process of learning and implementing new graphics using OpenGL instead of the Views that android give.

Tho I guess the experience for developing wasn't too bad. I just nitpicked some stuff I didn't like with the SDK.

I have my iTunes library stored over a network share and it works great (mirrored & backed up). I initially hated iTunes, but after making that change along with a few other config changes in iTunes (ie. copy all files added to my iTunes to my library, etc..), I like it a lot.

I also have my computer set to pull new images/videos from my iphone/ipad and place them into their own folders within my itunes directory. Just a simple sync every time.

One final point, for iOS users who just use iCloud to backup their devices, remember, Apple's definition of a "backup" is not the typical definition of a full backup. I prefer a full local backup/sync with the option to store a copy of items in my iTunes library to my library. This way for example, a music folder gets moved or deleted and you have to do a full restore of an iOS device, you'll already have a copy in your library and you're covered.

At the moment I am using an iPhone 4. But I hate it.... Well the product/phone itselfs is really nice, the quality and design is amazing.

BUT the f***ing software around is horrible. I got so much hate on iTunes. All the conformation, registration, sync and so on... Y I CANT EASILY put some new music on my smartphone from another pc >.<

In october I'll buy me an android. Looking forward to get the new Samsung Galaxy.

Now i'm a 20year+ computer user she's not computer shy and is an engineer, we gave up, or rather i gave up and she had to google for videos. Later i called my friend up who has to work with macs at work and he said, "just dumb yourself down, and you can use a mac, you can't use your brain".

Android assumes the user is intelligent and lets them make their own decisions.
iOS assumes the user in inept and makes decisions for them.
Windows assumes the user is a hipster and gives them modern art instead of a smartphone.

Android because it's more open.
iOS is a more polished experience but I can't stand it.
WebOS wasn't bad but it needed more apps and polish.
Windows seems to think that people don't like information density.

However, as of late, Google's been really taking the piss.

iOS, but only because I've already invested so much in apps and stuff.

I'm very interested in WP8.1.  I freaking love Windows 8.  Once you get used to it you can do so much more than 7, especially since there's a whole new realm for hacking/tweaking.
I'm back.
