[IC] RGB Modifiers in DSA Profile
« on: Mon, 14 July 2014, 20:02:22 »
I have seen a lot of hype over the DSA Profile recently. I have tried one myself and really liked it. However there's not a set of RGB modifiers that is commonly available to complement these keysets (except matt3o's Granite set) and so I have decided to run a groupbuy on pimpmykeyboard.

This set will be made using ABS Doubleshot with White legends, consisting of 2x1.25 Control, 2x1.25u Alternate, 1x2.25u Shift and 1x2.75u Shift. The colors that I have chosen for Red is RA, Green is VCS, and Blue is BFK.
More
the price is estimated to be less than $20 for a set

so yeah, if you can give your opinion and show your interest that can help make my first GB a success. thanks in advance to the geekhack community.

As a suggestion, perhaps a CMYW set too - to provide a nice contrast for all those Dolch DSA sets out there.

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I'm interested.  Agreed that a CMY would be good, and I'd probably lean more toward CMYK to begin with.

Given that many (most?) of those who bought Granite would have got RGB sets too (I did!), perhaps CMYW first would make sense.

Or what I was suggesting is to do both as kits available in the one GB.

Yes, both would be good for this GB.  I meant CMYK vs CMYW which you suggested.   :thumb:   I just think it works really solid as a starting point, rather than CMYW which may have contrast issues.

And even though most with Granite will have RGB, those who got DSA Dolch but not Granite will be without it, so it might be good for them.  I am one of these people.  After the separate RGB add-on buy fell through I would still like to get some DSA RGB if possible.  :)

I only suggested CMYW based on the mockup in Dubs's thread I linked above, i.e. this picture:

Contrast issues there might be, but the white legends go so well with Dolch :D

Indeed.  The unmodified version also goes well with Dolch though, FTR.   :thumb:   I haven't removed my CMYK from that very board in that photo since I put them on.  :)

the white legends doesn't go well with the CMYW at all.

and thanks for the suggestion for the CMYK/CMYW set but im planning it for a second GB instead of putting it together with RGB.

Unfortunately those sizes won't work for Ergodox users who use DSA a lot. Separate Dox set could be nice, for example for all keys a pair of 1x and 1.5x plus one 2x. It could become pricey though... 1x shifts probably could be dropped off (?) then it would be 13 keys total.
