Other great bargain is 1TB SSD Crucial for $449.99 (check Newegg.com black fridays sale).  The 1TB Crucial SSD is the better buy, but of course, it costs +$390.  I'm just about the pull the trigger on this one.

The first generation V300 (which was sampled to media) used Toshiba's 19nm Toggle-Mode 2.0 NAND but some time ago Kingston silently switched to Micron's 20nm asynchronous NAND. The difference between the two is that the Toggle-Mode 2.0 interface in the Toshiba NAND is good for up to 200MB/s, whereas the asynchronous interface is usually good for only ~50MB/s.

Update 2: NordicHardware has tested both the 505A and 521A versions and their testing confirms the decrease in performance. What is even more alarming is that based on their tests, the performance decrease is not limited to just incompressible performance but there is a noticeable difference in real world trace-based tests as well. The article itself is in Swedish but the graphs should be easy to understand and you can always use Google Translate.

i think i'd take an intel SSD over the kingston any day, and if it's cheaper then that's icing on the cake.

This particular line is always on sale and has poor reviews.  I wouldn't trust it with my OS, etc.  Black Friday is around the corner and there should be plenty of deals on better units.  Last year I paid $70 for Kingston hyper x 120gb and haven't had any problems.  This year I plan on getting a nicer 120gb+ for my gaming laptop.  I'd rather pay more for reliability.

Well, personally I would buy Crucial MX100 or M550 or Samsung 850, which are also cheap during Newegg's Black Friday Sales.  Every Friday in November, they have these sales.  With Newegg, only buy during the sales, otherwise the prices are not cheap.  Regular prices used to be the cheapest on the internetz, but not no more.  Actually not for the past ~4 years.

But for $60, if you haven't tried SSD, this is probably your time to do so.  If you find that you don't like your new Kingston SSD, or it sucks for some reason, simply chuck it out the window.  $60 won't break any member of this forum.

The Kingston HyperX line is decent, but their V-series drives have always had suspect performance and reliability.

One thing to watch out for is that some Black Friday "deals" really aren't all that. The price on that M550 drive isn't all that great considering the MX100 is just as good and cheaper. I paid less than $400 for my Samsung 1 TB SSD over the summer.
