I have a $100 for keycaps, what to buy?
« on: Thu, 14 August 2014, 13:03:31 »
So I sold a keyboard of mine awhile back to thin my collection of un needed keyboards, and was thinking of using some of the money from selling others to fix up what I have left.

And I'm down to 3 left ( 2 pokerX's and 1 XT )

This is my work poker, it looks kinda boring to my home poker ( blue/white/silver )

white pbt front printed caps, along with RBG and a custom Yellow mod kit as well.

I'm thinking about ordering another set of Vortex caps that I have on my home KB, but not sure on color.
I was thinking either red, blue, or pink.

Also open to other ideas as well. ( looking for something readily instock )

First choice either a GMK or Cherry double shot set. Consensus rates this as primo stuff.
Alternatively, a thick PBT set either imsto or BSP. Typically a great secondary option.

EDIT: Spamray linked a great, affordable thick PBT set.

My recommendation is to wait for the Granite R2 GB to go through. If you don't want to wait then get the Leopold PBT caps from Widebasket on ebay.

Also, I'm not really a fan of black, I like colors, and also not that big of a fan of signature plastic caps. I much much prefer thick caps to thin.

Aside that it took me 3 returns to get a set of vortex caps that weren't messed up, I really like them.

Is there a thick dye sub classic ( grey/beige ) set anywhere?

Yeah on a Poker II they look very "Tuxedo" classy. Front thin print is very cool.

I'll be doing full photoshoots for Matt3o's keypuller.com, stay tuned guys.

Your budget is sufficient to support 3-4 full sets of keycaps with extras from ghostofharry's group buy. Its fantastic value for money. Please join the buy!

when it ships it probably won't be more than $5 extra to get a set

You must be new here. The original TaiHao sets that people began reselling were marked up quite a bit, I'm sure these will be to.

Note: I don't agree with the practice just being realistic.

Orders are officially closed, but because so many people didn't pay, Harry will be happy to accept orders from anyone who PMs him.

Granite Round 2

Or wait for GMK Hyperfuse.

Personally, I actually really like Decked Out, and that would look good on that acrylic Poker.

Well, they're certainly not thick:

I'd say something similar to SP DCS, perhaps a hair thicker. They're thinner than Keycool "medium" thickness PBT and POM. The only good thing about them is that they're doubleshot, IMHO (thin OEM profile ABS).

I'd rather have Taihao doubleshots on my board than most stock backlit caps, but that's not saying much.

don't worry about what other people say; you have to try things out for yourself.

It is all very subjective. EG some people like ABS. And thin ABS is also a fav for a minority of people.

I generally find different types of switches affect whether I enjoy using a keycap type.

Tai Hao are thinnish, but actually quite well made.  More importantly they are consistent across the board.  If you don't mind OEM profile, they are pretty good.
