Ducky Shine 3 won't turn on - any ideas?
« on: Fri, 26 September 2014, 18:36:33 »
One of the LEDs died on my Ducky Shine 3 so I decided to open it up to look at the PCB and see where I would have to solder to replace it with a new one. I unplugged the wire on the keyboard connecting it to its Micro USB port to get a better look and plugged it back in. Now, whenever I plug it into the Micro USB cable connected to my PC, it won't turn on. Any ideas of what went wrong?

Try turning the little black connector connecting to that daughterboard where the micro USB port is over?

I've tried that as well.

Well i just took a look at my Ducky Shine 3 and the black connector is upside down, as mentioned above.
The red cable should be on the bottom, not the top.

Thanks for trying to help. Unfortunately pushing the cable in further and reversing it on the daughterboard did not fix the issue.  :(

I have noticed that the board gets hot right around where the power is plugged in but does not work.

No, but apparently reversing the polarity of the power cable can kill the board, which is what I believe happened to mine unfortunately.

Think you killed the controller by pushing the connectors in the wrong way :(

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
