Do mechanical switches last 100 years?

I just tried a homebrew batch of that stuff for my Braun selfcleaning shaver. Hope I don't go up in flames sometime shaving like Michael Jackson.

What did you use?  I have one of those, too, and those d*mn cartridges are expensive.

I was too lazy to go to the store so I just rinsed the thing out (that's kinda gross but at least it's your own hairs) and looked in the medicine cabinet. Poured in Rubbing Alchohol (Isopropyl diluted to 96% I believe), a tablespoon or so of Baby Oil (mineral oil) and a couple of sprays of Geekgirl's favorite male cologne.

That sounds about right.  I might try that.  Have you noticed that, with some of the newer models, that right after a cleaning, the foil is kinda sticky?  When I got my first one, I didn't have that problem, but with the Activator and the 360, it seems like there is a coating on the foil that doesn't allow it to slide as well (similar to how it would feel to shave with damp skin).  If I use it a second time without cleaning it, I don't have that problem.  It kinda sucks.

This is the first time I heard of the Norelco brand. I shave with a hunting knife and sweat anyway.

Nowadays, the company is Phillips/Norelco. I used to have the Norelco with the lotion, but I liked the Brauns better. The Norelco Arcetec looks pretty cool, though. I might have to try one out, especially now that they have self-cleaning models like Braun.

OK, the demineralized water may have done the trick. Worked it out with the switches upside down. The problematic Caps Lock started becoming rubbery at some point (indicating that there still is something in there) but now that it's dried, it's only somewhat rough. No sticking any more, and it'll actuate from the side.

Maybe I'll do another cleanup one of these days, but for now this does the job.

All, in all, for cleaning up spills on Cherry G80 boards I'd recommend: Dry cleanup only. If the stuff didn't get into the switches by itself, i.e. they work fine, best leave things alone. Don't learn the hard way like I did.
