Razer Rant
« on: Sun, 09 November 2014, 02:15:15 »
Okay, I figured I need to post this.  As of now I am using WASDkeyboard as I have posted i would earlier.  I love it and it came right in time.  I have only used my Razer Blackwidow Stealth 2014 for about 3 months and for some reason I think it felt it was going to get it replaced.  The darn thing decided to act up a few days ago.  If you pressed the "A" key sometimes it registered properly, and sometimes it registered several times causing two to six "A"s to be registered.

What a piece of crap.  I think I'm going to pull an Office Space on it.  Replacing all my Razer products has been one of the best decisions I have made as of late when it comes to my PCs.

Everyone have a nice day and I hope this post helps those thinking of buying a new keyboard.

I have a few razer products, including a Black widow ultimate 2013 blah blah and every time I have bought something of theirs it's because it was the least worst product available locally and I needed it straight away. In a time gone buy I was a gamer but haven't lanned for years and that's razers market. They are a hype brand and once were seen as the had to have manufacturer but since then others have stepped up and improved. I use a DAS at work and that's where I spend the majority of my keyboard time and whilst it doesn't set my my world on fire I do like it more than the Widow.

Just don't buy their stuff and avoid the disappointment.

PS - I do have to say I still love my V1 Deathadder with no-drift firmware, it's a great mouse.

This sucks that so many people are having issues with Razer products.  I wish I had found this forum before I purchased a Razer.  I feel robbed.  You'd think a company that makes it's bread by putting out a product that hast to be relied on everyday would put out a better quality good.  Apparently this philosophy is wrong when it comes to certain product manufacturers.

I wish i was back in the States.  I'd make a video of myself using these keyboards as firearm targets.

The only Razer product I'm still rocking, as it has held up for a few years, is the Razer Carcharias headset. I used to use Audio .90s and even the .110s from Plantronics back in my competitive days, but they'd always bite the dust eventually from taking home and LAN tournament abuse. I'm not an audiophile at all, and the Razers were a decently comfortable and on sale option at the time; and they're still going strong for now.

Razer was not as bad when they were really "by gamers, for gamers." As they increased in popularity and increased their product portfolio, their quality and reputation have gotten worse and worse. Add on the fact that other companies have stepped up in the same space, offering comparable options and decent price points, they keep looking like a poor choice.

Some people seem to have good luck with Razer products, but more often than not there are problems, either immediately with build quality, or with the longevity of the keyboards.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I won all my Razer gear from a lucky draw event hosted by Asiasoft in Singapore back in 2009. I won a Lycosa, a Naga and a Moray In-ears. My Lycosa managed to live on for 6 years, my Naga mouse lived for 5 years, and my Razer Moray, unfortunately, lasted for 1 year. To be honest,  I don't mind shopping for Razer products as they seem to last very long for me, or maybe it's just my luck. I picked up a Megalodon, apparently, 2 years ago. Still going strong, but it does need its ear cushions replaced. Sadly they don't stock it anymore. Just have to hunt for them in the market I guess.

However I'm shying away from Razer, because the quality of their products these days are questionable, and mainly because there are other companies that can offer much better quality products for like 2/3 of the price, which embarrassingly I found out only recently. At least I didn't shop for most of my Razer gear! It was fun while it lasted though.

I tend to think of Razer as a stepping stone for most peripherals to be honest. I mean I started out with a Razer Lycosa I believe it was called? I think moved onto the Blackwidow and the Blackwidow Ultimate and while I personally didn't have any glaring issues with these boards, I just got really bored of the Blue switch rather fast and those keyboards were just not for me, they felt kind of cheap, kind of tacky and I hated the keycaps and the keyprinting, so I knew that I had to get rid and purchase something with a little more finesse.

But heh, everyone has their preferences. Saying that though, I have never had an issue with any of the Razer headsets, although they did break twice through faults of my own, but still. Lol.

the only Razer product I use these days is a Razer Orbweaver Stealth (with true Cherry MX Browns, before they switched to Khails). It's my primary gaming keyboard, since I'd much rather get keycap wear on the Orbweaver than on my HHKB. Also, personally I don't think Topre works too well as a gaming switch - for me it's gotta be Cherry for my gaming needs.

The Orbweaver has been serving me well since April 2013. The only thing I can say bad about it is that the software can sometimes bug out occasionally - from time to time the software wouldn't see the keyboard, requiring a force close of the software to get it to register. I think they may have gotten those issues fixed though, as I haven't had this issue for a few months now.

I'm glad some of the folks here are having luck with their Razer products, and I hope you continue to do so.  Career wise I work with a lot of hardened electronic equipment that is built to withstand not only the harshest elements from Antarctica to the desert, but withstand nuclear holocaust.  If something breaks within a year of use, much less only three months, without any abuse, I have very little patience with said product.  I also make sure everyone I know does not use said product, and I will not be purchasing said product for any of my businesses.  WASDkeyboards have proven themselves and I have bought everyone in my company one for themselves.  I cannot say I would do that with most products, but Razer is going to the shooting range.

I will post video as soon as I head to the States and accomplish this tasking.  It might be a few years when I do so, but it will be worth it.

I've had a really bad time with Apple products, to the point where I will not use them and do not recommend them to anyone. Totally understandable.

I have a Razer Goliathus to go with my Naga, Honestly I have had both for about 2 years and they still are going strong. The mouse pad might have to be replaced before the mouse. As for Apple. I have an iPhone which I have had zero issues with; however, I but mac mini's for my work, and every 3rd to 4th product has a major issue. I would step away but many of them have lasted for 6 plus years, when they do work =)

Next mouse I get will be something from Steel Series. And the next pad would be someone that is extended. something that's 3' by 1'.

Only razer product I ever bought was a deathadder black edition. It as simple looking, black matte optical mouse. Worked really nice for about 2 years, and at that time I sold it to a friend because I got a zowie AM and realized I heavily prefer ambidextorous mice.

Stayed away from other razer **** because I had felt friend's and thought they were trash.

I keep giving Razer chances and every time I end up more and more disappointed.

I've tried most of their audio products, all of which I'm disappointed in. (They sound just as bad as Turtle Beach)

I tried the Vespula that deteriorated in under a year ($40 mouse pad that doesn't even last a year? Come on)

I owned the Razer deathadder and Naga hex 2013.

Both felt cheap and deathadder died at the 6 month mark. Returned the Naga before my month was up.

The black widow was one of the worst keyboards I've used in my life.

They sell rubber dome keyboards for the prices of mechanicals.
