Help from any Roccat owners!
« on: Sun, 21 December 2014, 13:47:37 »
Does the Roccat software/drivers require an administrator account to open in Windows 7? Can someone please test this with a non-admin account? Thanks in advance.

I did not have to run the program as administrator. Though I am on my main account.

Can you please test this by creating a non-admin account and trying? Thanks for your help.

Have you tried clicking "No" when it asks for admin access?

No, I don't have an actual Roccat mouse yet I was just wondering if it could work before I get one.

Well, the mice are driverless to begin with - if you want to change anything then you'll have to download the drivers.

once the profiles are made they can be saved directly to the mouse and it shouldn't need the drivers to work

Yeah but to make the profile you have to download the drivers right? And you can't download them if you don't have the mouse plugged in right?

No, do you have a Roccat mouse?  If you don't can you please try downloading the drivers online with a non-admin account? This would help me so much.

Can't you just download the mouse software yourself and try to open it without the mouse? That should work fine.

I would think that any decent software should at least start without a mouse.

wat.

I don't understand this thread. The mouse will almost certainly work as a dumb mouse with any modern OS that supports USB HID stuff. Want to configure it? You can pick one of *two* different drivers w/ config GUI: proprietary for MS Windows and open-source for GNU/Linux. Even if Roccat cripples the proprietary blob in any imaginable way, you can ignore it, and just use the free driver by Stefan Achatz—just run a modern distro in VirtualBox or from a flash drive or whatever.

You can plug in a roccat mouse and it will just work, no software needed.

The only time you need the software is if you want to make a change (like what the side buttons do). However, I am sure you can find a computer with admin access, at your own personal comouter, some friends, etc. There has to be someone with an unlocked computer, you don't have to do it at work.

If you make your changes they will continue to work on any computer even without the software, so you can use it at work or any other computer without admun rights.

If you are thinking of buying the Kone or Tyon I recommend installing the drivers.  I'm assuming you are running Windows.  The drivers install just fine.  Once you load the profiles you want and upgraded the firmware the mouse is good on any PC you want to use.  However, if you are using Linux, there is a bit of work to be done to install the drivers.  When done right, in my opinion, the drivers for Linux are a bit easier to use.

You should definitely install the drivers then update the firmware, they provide many important features and performance improvements. Great mouse.
