I've got a bad feeling in the pit of me wallet...
« on: Sun, 28 December 2014, 13:16:18 »
I've had my unicomp for a good while now, and I love it, but its making me hate my laptop's keyboard that I have to use sometimes.  I got the ps/2 keyboard instead of the usb, part of my kinda regrets that now cause I have the itch to buy a usb mechanical keyboard now. And not just one but all the different switch types.  Its gonna happen, I just feel so bad for my wallet, between steam sales and this its gonna be a long ride...

Sounds like you're another victim of wallethacking. It burns at first, but you'll be glad in the end when you've reached typing nirvana, don't worry. :P

Is there a reason why you don't want to just get a PS/2 to USB converter?
Or do you just feel a need for something new?

(Personally I think you made the right decision to buy the PS/2 version because on a PC with PS/2 ports, the Unicomp feels more at home plugged in via the PS/2 port. I bought the USB version because I had a non PS/2 PC at the time and I regret it because sometimes when I boot up my PC the Unicomp is not detected until it has finished booting. This is annoying because then I need to get a crappy rubberdome PS/2 keyboard out to access the BIOS settings.)

If I buy the converter it will be harder to justify another keyboard.

So you want to get something new, right?

And not just keyboards.  Now I've become addicted to computer mice.

My old lenovo laptop has scissor switch keys, not as good as a Model M by a long shot but still is extremely usable.
I don't usually collect things, but when I do, they're from the 70's, 80's, and 90's. My typing speed: 79 WPM
IBM Model M 1386303, 1987 / IBM Model M 1391401, 1993 / IBM Model M 59G7980, 1993 / Unicomp "Mini M" UT40E7A (modded), 2021 / Dell AT101W, 1994 (Black Alps) / Apple Extended Keyboard (Orange Alps), 1987 / Sun Type 5, unknown year (Rubber Dome)

If you're talking about the Thinkpad style scissor switches, I agree.
They are probably the best mainstream laptop keyboards.

I say "the best mainsteam" because I'm sure there are a couple other models of laptops which had great keyboards but were not as popular as the Thinkpad. Actually, I find most older laptop keyboards a joy to type on. (My old Fujitsu has red rubberdomes! Red! Muhahaha)

I don't feel so bad, because I've been addicted to mice and keyboards since the late 90s, and this place is both like a therapy group and a drug dealer for me.
