Prototype Deckerson 3D printed cap giveaway
« on: Sat, 03 January 2015, 21:56:34 »
I've been playing around with tinkerCAD and seeing if I couldn't make some of my caps in it or, at the very least, make some interesting designs with it.  I've also tried a few other programs, but they make 3D objects that are too big file size wise for TinkerCAD and likely for Shapeways.

In any case, I'm not really sold on the prototype.  So instead of letting it go unused, I decided to give it away.  The winner will get it shipped free within the US or for the additional shipping cost outside of the US.  To win it, you must have been here for at least 6 months.

How do you enter?  Tell a story about your interaction with the community.  It can be a feel good story about interactions with someone, it could be one of friendship, it could be one of learning, it can be anything.  I'll pick five from that and do a random drawing of the top five.

Giveaway closes on 1/17/15.

Side note, the stem is a little too tight, so there is a crack in it.  It still works though, you just need to be careful.

This is an awesome looking key. Unfortunately I haven't been with the community long enough so good luck to everyone else!

I'm too new to enter this contest unfortunately but I have two questions for nubbinator:

Does this mean we'll be seeing the new Deckersons withing this month?

Are you planing on making any multicolor Deckerson caps, such as this one?

Thank you!

Hoff sends me snapchats about his giant sausage.

Seriously though, I've had so many good interactions here. The keyboard streams are so much fun.

I'm not entering, this cap should go to someone with less artisan caps. But this is a great community. I was brought here while my friend and I were trying to make a 40% for dvorak. Which led me to message JD. After finishing the project I ended up going full circle to work with JD on the JD45. Everyone I've talked to so far has been open to questions and really friendly. Nice giveaway Nub!

Thank you!

Deckerson B-Sides will be soon.   I have a handful made up already. Deckersons are generally two color, but there are several different styles.

I can't enter but just wanted to comment on the 3D printing. Pretty cool that more and more people are getting into it. I really hope to see more deigns coming out. I know you aren't sold on it, but what if you used a different material?

I tried another material and the fidelity was horrible.  Stem was good, fidelity sucked.

hate this community.

give me the ****ing keycap.
I joined GH around early-mid Dec. and I have to say it's been very... interesting...
I have very much enjoyed the disarray of attitudes in GH, like in demik's response.
And without having known me, you guys have basically let me into your tight-knit community with open arms (against my previous notions).

So here's to 2015, GeekHack. May your forums flourish and may your users clack away a new year! (And may I win more raffles!)

Cool giveaway!  :)  I'd love to add this guy to my collection.

I'll tell a feel good story about interacting with friends while learning about anything.

This past summer I drove down to Ohio to visit CPTBadAss and catch a show with him.  We had already met up twice before, at both KeyCons, so we knew each other pretty well.  We tentatively planned this trip as a wallethack/concert trip, and went on with our lives.  Then we got talking to Halverson, and it turned out he'd be in the states at the time, so he decided to come along too.  ^.^   All praise to GirlShark!!  :-*

Anyway, I drove down there and was greeted by a sassy Shark, a spunky Asian, and a schedule to make anyone's wallet weep.  Ice cream, retro video game store, ice cream, record store, ice cream, container store, ice cream, pen store, ice cream, another retro video game store, ice cream, another record store, Micro Center, ice cream, ice cream, and another record store for good measure.  I may have left out one or two trips for ice cream, too.

Oh, and we rocked the **** out to The Offspring.  And chilled/jammed to some tunes at night (I took my turntable down with me), played Cosmic Encounter (one of the best board games IMO), and found some Click Clacks at the store.

Cap looks great. I think I am always going to prefer your resin molded ones though, over 3D printed anyday.

D'awww thanks Hoff. That was such a good weekend. I'm really happy that you made the drive down <3. And dude, you forgot about the arcades....and the fact that you ****ed up the game where you bought one thing at every store :P.

My story is that one time I went to Hoff's house where he demolished me in Wave Racer and Mario Party. We also had a playday for our Enviros and drank many Sprechers. And I guess some other cool people came over. That WI meetup was so much fun and I still think Hoff is crazy to host a meetup IN HIS HOME..

Anywho, I just wanted to share my story. Like Joey Quinn, I'm not entering and I hope that the cap finds a nice home :).
