Genovation 630 Teardown/Review
« on: Wed, 14 January 2015, 20:24:50 »
I recently purchased two Genovation 630 numpads from http://www.ebay.com/itm/Genovation-MicroPad-630-21-USB-10-Key-/181639637292?

They arrived today via Priority mail. I paid $21 shipped for both numberpads.

2 screws

Ver 1.1 ;D

Plate mount blacks

All opened up

PCB

Note that the switches are plate mount but the PCB supports PCB mounted switches but not stabs.

A more formal review will be edited in once I spend some more time with it. ;)

Proper tenkey layout (with useful keys on top row), very nice.  How does it feel?  My Adesso numpad is a featherlight, feels like a toy.
Currently GMMK Pro: lubed 68g U4T, FR4 plate, extra gaskets, etc

After using it for two days, I don't really like it.

The bottoming out feels really mushy, the switches themselves feel like the unclipped stabilizers. It has a plate, but I think that the combination of thin plate and flimsy plastic case make it feel like ****. When I apply a lot of force on the keys, the whole PCB+Plate combo moves up and down inside of the case.

The cable placement is also a tragedy, it juts out of the top of the right side, making it interfere with the mousepad if you put it on the right and with the keyboard (if its TKL-Fullsize) if you put it on the left.

But for $11, its a nice little numpad for quick usage, and a nice object for taking pictures with ;D

You can easily open the num-pad up and change the cable to come out of the left side of the num-pad. There are holes on both sides of the case, doesn't require any modification (you just move the rubber plug to the other side).

The cable orientation has bothered since I received the numpad, thanks for the heads up.

MGH - thanks for bumping :)
