Any of you use Vimium/Vimari?
« on: Fri, 19 July 2013, 05:11:08 »
Since I've started using it I almost never touch the mouse. That lets me have fullsize keyboard without worries about the distance to mouse.
Does any of you guys use it too? If not, I totally recommend you try it. This + BetterSnapTool and I can very comfortably use my mac without a mouse :)

God no, vimperator all the way. Totally disqualifies chrome for me. That and side tree tabs.

While I agree vimperator is more feature rich and superior, it's just not enough to swing me to firefox :(. The only use firefox gets from me is to test web application presentation.

I need to force myself over to firefox, need to wean off chrome - I'm using way too many google products.

I tried vimium, vimchrome and vrome on chrome and I've used vimchrome for months with the others disabled. I cant remember the detail of why I choose vimchrome. vimchrome is not perfect but works better for me.
Before emigrated to chrome I was completely happy with keysnail on firefox.

Install "Tree Style Tab" on firefox and you'll instantly no longer be able to use chrome ever again.

The fact I usually have between 50 and 300 tabs open is partly why I like it so much.

I... I have trouble closing tabs.
The memory isn't as big a deal with firefox tabs as it is with chrome tabs. And I have 16gb.

If you use linux there are some nice webkit options such as: dwb, jumanji, uzbl, vimprobable. All of these allow for keybinds and passthrough for mouseless webbrowsing. Tiling window managers also help reduce mouse use, if that's something you're looking for.

This looks quite interesting, and would be really good for people like me who hate using the mouse trackpad on a laptop when on the go and you can't use your mouse (seems easier to browse the web in class with this hehehehe). I might try this out in the near future.

Love the comment on the OP video

"wht if i dont half a keyborrr'?"

Thats going to be my quote of the day for 3 days in a row.

Now that Opera is Chrome based, I wonder if this Vimium thing will work on it.

Yes! I love Vimium. Why use a mouse when we have such great keyboards? I almost never use my mouse while web browsing now.

I recently installed it. I can't say yet if it is worth while. I usually use Pentadactyl on Firefox.
At the moment I am very tempted to say that Vimium is complete garbage.

But, I have not spent enough time with it to say for sure. It seems like there is no support for macros.
Navigation is odd to me. For example, the d key does not close the current tab as it does in Pentadactyl.
I know one thing for sure, coming from Pentadactyl to Vimium is not a pleasant and intuitive process.
For example, I just used 'gt' to try and switch tabs earlier while i was presumably in esc mode. Nothing happened.

Since I cannot stomp on Vimium with heavy boots until it ceases to exist, I'll settle for uninstalling it.

VIMPERATOR ALL THE WAY!!! hahaha.. if you're using linux, you can cut down your mouse usage to almost 99%, things like tiling windows manager, browse through folders and files using terminal, even music player like mpd+ncmpcpp, simple downloader like uget, they're all operates through command line.. you just need your keyboard!

I use it about half and half. The mouse is just much quicker in some places (like here) when I want to open a bunch of threads in new background tabs (mouse wheel click), or pages that don't work well with it.

It is fun though. I especially like using it when my keyboard is on my lap. W3M is a fun console text-based Linux browser.

VimFX. Basically Vimium for Firefox, i.e. keep the stock controls and UI (unlike Vimperator/Pentadactyl).

I use vimium but don't really like it that much. I used to use Conkeror which is a fully customizable, scriptable, emacs-like browser that doesn't really even support using the mouse (no such thing as a right-click, for example).

But it seems to just up and stop working every once in a while so I go back to vimium which is a poor substitute.

I think my biggest problem with vimium (and I think this goes for any chrome extension) is thay when you're on a non-page the plugin doesn't function. Like, if you click or visit a URL that doesn't exist and get the chrome error screen, you can't use your keyboard "back" shortcut to go back.

Maybe I'll look at vimperator since people are saying it's more feature complete. Can you make custom page drivers for certain sites? Can you customize the keybindings? Does it work even on blank pages?

I used vimperator when it was new (many many years ago) but forgot about this whole idea until I saw this thread. I just installed Vimium and have been using it for about 20 minutes to browse GH.

It seems like a cool concept, but I wish I could use Vim controls here in this textbox where I'm writing this post. I'm not sure how that would work but it would be cool.

I regret never have bought it!
They did their job so well. Remote App buy them just to give support, because they do not use actually.

Vimari is rather limited in functionality. Vimium has many more features, but do not know if you have that.
