Mobile Soldering Setup?
« on: Sat, 24 October 2015, 01:37:35 »
My home soldering workstation is good, but there are times when I need to do work for friends or others, so it would be really nice to have a mobile soldering station that keeps everything together and organized so I can just throw it in the car and go.

Does anyone know of any solutions for something like this?  I've seen a few articles about customizing an existing toolbox, and that's not out of the question, but if there is something pre-made and ready to go that would be even better.

So whats the best way to travel with soldering gear and what kind of setup do you guys use that works well?

Thanks in advance.

Good question, slaction.
I used to be interested in buying a small soldering iron which I could carry around, but wasn't sure how decent they are.
I'm wondering if anybody has had experience with battery-powered soldering irons and the gas ones (propane or butane) and how good they are, if their temperature is in a reasonable range, etc.

I had a friend just bring his entire soldering iron and solder on trips, and help friends solder stuff in his hotel room. ^-^

You can just do that too with what you use at home.

I haven't tried one of these yet, but as a Hakko 888 owner, I'm super happy with the quality of their products and have read great reviews on this pen.

I couldn't find pre-made one. DIY is way to go.
