Current 40% options
« on: Wed, 28 October 2015, 19:01:24 »
Looking for some suggestions on what the current options for 40% keyboards are.

Here's some criteria for what I'd like (Not 100% required, just my wishlist):
  • SpaceFn capable
  • Bluetooth
  • 6 or 6.25 spacebar
  • Off center capslock

I'm not necessarily looking for a fully assembled board, as I'm undecided on which particular switch I'll be going with anyways. The NerD Mobik comes to mind, but I'm looking for any possible alternatives.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

I feel like the jd40 meets most of these.

NerD Mobik meets most of those criteria, although I'm not certain about SpaceFn or 6x spacebar. It is fully programmable, though, and compatible with offset caps lock.

Then there's JD40 and JD45, but they don't have BT options. I prefer the JD45 for the split bottom row layouts, since you can make use of your thumbs better without resorting to "hacks" like SpaceFn. They both have non-standard sized Caps Lock, though, so they don't support off-centre caps ;) The JD45 supports Alps switches and 6x spacebar.

Then there's this: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=76485.0

Not sure of all the capabilities, though.
Buying more keycaps,
it really hacks my wallet,
but I must have them.

The JD45 is the most interesting to me, particularly due to the extreme cost of the NerD for something I'm not going to be using that often. However I'm unclear on what current/future availability is.

Off center caps isn't a must have, I just have a keyset with off center that I can't use anywhere. And thinking more about it, I can likely remove it from my list; I just don't need a key that size on a 40% methinks.

I use SpaceFn elsewhere, hence why I would like a 40% that supports it: just easier to swap between boards. I also prefer SpaceFn to other methodologies I've tested. Not a deal breaker, just what's ideal for me.
