Razer BlackWidow X Chroma the right Keyboard for me?
« on: Fri, 04 November 2016, 13:41:29 »
Hello,
im new at mechanical keyboards and I dont know which is the right one for me.

I'm typing on a SideWinder X4 since 5 years and I'm happy with it, but it's time for a mechanical Keyboard.

I already tested the following Keyboards:
- Corsair Strafe RGB MX Silent (don't like the feel while pressing the buttons and there is a ping which is way too loud)
- Razer BlackWidow X Chroma (like it but it's too loud)

Now there are only two keyboards on my list.
Cooler Master Masterkeys Pro L MX Brown ( I don't know if I would miss the clicks like with green switches)
Razer BlackWidow X Chroma with  O Rings.
I want to know, why so many people hate the BlackWidow X Chroma.

Many people recommend the Ducky Shine 5 but it's the most expensive one, so I only would buy it, if there isnt any other good keyboard.
It's very important that there isn't any ping sound. I think the BlackWidow have  a quit ping, which dosent bother me .
So I dont know if the Browns would be too "untactile".

Features I want:
- RGB lights
- Numpad
- DE Layout

I dont have so much space for the keyboard, so there shouldnt be any macro key on the side.
I dont use them.

Thank you very much for your help!
I sended to many things back, so I should order the right one this time :D

Many people don't like Razer and many people find RGB to be a gimmick.
Keycaps for backlit keyboards tend to feel and wear bad - a transparent blob that grows as the paint layer is worn off.

Ducky Shine (at least in the US, read reviews!), has double-shot moulded keys that don't wear in the same way. Higher quality has a higher price.

But why ?
Except the bad QC :D

I live in germany so it costs 200€.
The other stores only have the US Layout.

What I forgot to say:
I use it for FPS games and writing many emails. Maybe it's necessary

1 of the reasons I don't like razor/corsair k - boards is that they don't have a standard bottom row, so if you gonna change keycaps, don't buy those k - boards.

Get the Ducky Shine 5 RGB, (if you gonna change keycaps) the k - board have a standard bottom row, the only problem here is the ISO/DE layout (same problem with the ISO/Nordic here in sweden) is you're not gonna find many ISO keycaps sets. That's why I don't buy ISO/Nordic layout k - boards anymore, you can many more keycaps sets in the ANSI layout.

Picture of my ANSI Ducky One RGB YOTG. You can't buy this boards anymore/if you find one it is not gonna be cheap.

I only would add maybe O Rings but I never would change things like Keycaps so the standard bottom row is not important for me.
Your Keyboard looks very nice and the width would be very good on my desk !

But it dosent make my decision more easy :D
The Ducky costs still 200€ here

man they have free shipping or just 9 euros shipping. Check cclcomputer (site and ebay), alternate.be/nl, amazon uk....easy!

U must change caps on that razer board after 2 months of use...they became like french fries, but black.

If the Ducky is too expensive for you go for the Cooler Master Maskterkeys Pro L. The build quality and QC is still a lot better than with Razer and Corsair. And it has a standard bottom row, so in the event that you want to change the keycaps (which will happen when you stay here or on /r/mk long enough) you can still do it. If you use geizhals.de to find the best price I bet the Cooler Master boards will even be cheaper than the Razer or Corsair boards.

Yeah but  they have a US layout. I need the de layout.
I didint find any ducky shine with de layout which costs less then 200€

The CM Masterkeys Pro L costs here 120€ and I will look a few videos and decide if the mx brown would be ok for me because its not available with mx blues.
Hope there is no ping.

I like the DE layout and I only would get a US layout if I would start to programm again but I wont.
I'm typing at work and in shool on DE layouts too, so it would bother me to change the layout everytime.
Ebay CLL Store 170€ for Ducky with shipment but not with DE layout.
So I ordered the MasterKeys Pro L with MX Brown switches for 125€ and it should arrive tuesday so I can give a small feedback.

Only need to find a good wrist rest.

Thank you for your help! :)

If you usin a German Windows you can lets say use a ISO/UK/Nordic k - board but the k - board layout in Win is German.

I'm usin some ANSI k - boards and have a Swedish Win 7 and have Swedish Win k - board layout on my ANSI k - boards. The only thing is that I don't have the legends Ö, Ä and Å on the ANSI keycaps.

I also have a old Ducky Shine 3 with ISO/UK layout, I change the ISO/UK keycaps to a ISO/Nordic keycaps set and got the missin legends Ö, Ä and Å with the ISO/Nordic keycaps set.

All my razer products fail. Even their mech keyboards with Cherry Mx switches.

Even my vespula mousepad's wrist rest didn't last long.

If you would end up spending as much as $150-200 on a keyboard. Go for something else.  :thumb:

There are many comments about failing razer products.
At the end I bought a razer mouse which I like very much and I hope that mine dosent fail after a few months :D
But the people I know with razer products, using them since a few years and they didint had any problem.
You can get problems with any product but I think by razer there are more.

Like I said, I already ordered the MasterKeys Pro L with MX Browns for 125€ :)

I was yesterday able to test the Blackwidow Ultimate from 2013 I think with green switches.
A friend is typing since 2 years on it and it looks still very good and typing is very nice.
I'm reading so many bad things about razer but none of my friends had any problem with razer :D

I like the X Chroma but it's way too loud and too expensive.
Too much money for that quality.
And I really don't like the support.
Need to wait, until you can start to send it back and you don't get any label for shipment.
Normally you get a free shipment back if the value is over 30€.

No problem.

the Keyboard arrived today and I like it.
But there are two buttons(S&H) which are "pinging" very loud.

So would you recommend to get another MasterKeys Pro L, or should I choose another Keyboard.
I think the Ducky is the only one which you would take but it costs 200€ here......
The Masterkeys costs 125€ for me.

Give it a week of constant use in which you press those keys more often (for example while watching a video). If it does not get better after that just file a return claim and get a new one.

I only asked if there is any other keyboard except the ducky which you would recommend.

I will use it one day more and press the both pinging keys more often.
Really hope that it gets better but I dont think that it will.

A week is a bit long. I'm trying since 2 months to find a good keyboard

Here it costs over 200€....
Im not the type of person who buys a very expensive keyboard and then spends money again for keycaps and things like that :D

I only want a Fullsize RGB Keyboard with Brown or Blue Switches which dosent make a loud ping.

Filcos ping all the time.

https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=18731.0

I thougt filco keyboards are very good quality keyboards.
For me its not a good quality if there is a ping.

I send the CM back tomorrow because I think there is a problem with the spring.
Now I said that I want the same keyboard again but I read today that there will be a new rgb roccat released.
But with ttc browns whith light feedback. The Cherry MX Browns have already a to light feedback.
I liked roccats quality but I don't know anything about their mechanical keyboards.

If it would be Filco Majestouch 2 vs Ducky Shine 5.
Which one would you choose? Because both of them costs here about 200€.

Any other recommendation except staying with the SideWinder X4 ? :D
Because I reveived my second MasterKeys Pro L today and I couldnt test it well but there are minimum 6 keys which are pinging.
At the first one there was only 2 so I dont think that I will get one without pinging.
Unfortunately I am very sensitive in this way.
