Unicomp Black Friday Deals
« on: Sat, 26 November 2016, 21:55:30 »
Hey all, I thought I'd pass this on. I didn't see a thread on it, but apologies of there already is and I missed one. Unicomp is having a B40% off Black Friday/Cyber Monday deal on their warehouse liquidations. They have some interesting genuine IBM and Lexmark made Model Ms up for grabs, including some in French-Canadian and Wordperfect key layouts. Since some folks have criticized the Unicomp Model Ms for having a somewhat different key action and feel than their true IBM forebears, among other things, this might be a chance for Model M aficionados to pick up a nice, clean, NEW keyboard without dealing with all of the uncertainties of Evilbay. I'm toying with the idea of getting a Wordperfect one like the old keyboard I used when law clerking. Merry Christmas to me!

This is good stuff, thanks for posting. I'm tempted by the new 101-key WordPerfect Model M. I used to know WordPerfect back in the day.

Here's the specific Warehouse Liquidation page:

I hope Unicomp selling these doesn't mean they're hurting financially - seems like they could have saved these caches of goodies for a rainy day.

This is a truly excellent deal for an older brand new Model M.

An IBM cable with a RJ11 (telephone) connector on one end, and a full-size 5-pin barrel connector on the other end. Unicomp will sell you one of them.

A better plan is to use a Soarer (or similar) protocol converter and a USB cable so you can connect it to a modern PC and remap the layout to your liking.

I like keyboards and case modding.  Everything about a computer should be silent -- except the KEYBOARD!

'85 IBM F-122/Soarer Keyboard |  Leopold FC200 TKL (Browns) + GH36 Keypad (Browns/Greens) | GH-122 (Whites/Greens) with Nuclear Data Green keycaps in a Unicomp case

The soarer converter seems to cost as much as the keyboard :-) thanks anyway

I wonder if it is a terminal model or a standard model... Just wondering why the low price!  :thumb:
