How do I reduce the ping sound from the Apple m0110
« on: Thu, 31 August 2017, 04:14:08 »
Just fixed up my m0110 and noticed that the ping sound is very echoey.

I saw somewhere that you can put some sort of pad inside the housing to reduce the echo.

Any suggestions?

Earmuffs. Those are SKCC switches. Their green counterpart switches are called "pingmaster" switches due to their nature. You can dampen it a bit but it will still make that noise.

Pretty sure it's due to the ringing of the springs within the switches.  I notice this with Green ALPs as well, and I found that lubing the springs pretty much completely took it away.  The lube just adds some mass and makes it harder for them to vibrate for very long. Problem is that I don't know if it is a good long term solution as you'd think eventually all of the lube would settle to the bottom of the spring due to gravity. You could also try to floss mod in theory too.  Never opened up one of the T mount alps before though, so not sure how feasible this all is.

Ah, the King of Ping! Yes, these ping like hell and then some. It's due to the springs inside, as well as plate vibration, I think. If you muffle the plate with some filler material (cloth, foam, whatever) you can dampen it a bit, but SKCCs will ping at least a bit regardless.

Huge fan of your videos! And I had read somewhere that a rubber pad that fits around the switches dampened the sound a tad.

Thank you :) . Yes, it will dampen it partially. But to be honest, give it some time. You might find it grows on you. It's part of the switch' character; something switches still had before the 2000s.
