Acer switch keyboard hack
« on: Thu, 23 April 2020, 14:51:34 »
Just thought I would post this hack I figured out.
I happened to come across a large supply of Acer switch detachable keyboards. SW312-31 N17H1.  It's a nice action small keyboard and I wanted to use it on a kitchen computer setup because its so small.  However it has no USB connector just 6 gold pins with no markings. like this:

                                pins
                           1   2   3  4  5  6
   [-------------------------------------------------]
   |               Q  W  E  R  T  Y  U  I  O  P           |
   |                                                                |
   |____________|SPACE BAR|_____________|
                          |                   |
                          |TOUCH PAD  |
                          |__________ |

Pin# 1 Ground Black wire of USB
                   # 2 Nothing  (not used) (no connection)
#3 White wire of USB    , Data -
#4 Green wire of USB   , Data +
#5 Red wire of USB  +5V
                    #6 No connection (not used)

I have been noticing the keyboard connection drops out after a while.  I unplug and replug and it works again.  Does anybody have an idea this might happen?  should I connect the unused pins to ground?  and by ground I mean either the Black ground or the shielding of the usb cable.  Any suggestions?

Is it some kind of power saving feature so it goes to sleep when you don't use it for a while then fails to wake up, or does it stop working after a while even while you're using it?
