Hello everyone, I'm Geon from South Korea

First of all, you might wonder why this has been divided into smaller base kits.

- Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the keyboard hobby has become widely known to the general public,
resulting in a diverse and broad new consumer base.
Among these new consumers, some may quickly lose interest and leave,
but many are eager to deepen their understanding of keyboards and gain extensive experience to become enthusiasts.

- Through my experience sourcing various keycaps and communicating with consumers,
I’ve realized that all enthusiasts eventually gravitate towards GMK.
Most of my users are interested in GMK
but have found it difficult to access due to its relatively high price compared to other keycaps,
making it challenging to experience.

- I aim to provide new users with an affordable way to experience GMK,
through several smaller base kits that have not been tried before, creating new demand.
This will help achieve high sales volumes (MOQ),
ultimately allowing existing enthusiasts to purchase at a lower price.

- The MOQ for the base kits is set at 3,000 sets,
but I will personally purchase 2,000 sets with my own funds.
Even if this project is not successful,
there will be no cancellation or financial loss for my partners.

- I believe the best marketing is providing good products at good prices to consumers,
and I hope you guys to be my marketers.

; Why I Choose the GMK Evil Dolch
- Korea has a long-standing familiarity and preference for the black and red.
This can be seen in the ‘Red Devils’ from the 2002 World Cup,
the Kia Tigers baseball team, FC Seoul soccer team, and the SKT T1 pro gaming team.
Since I am based in Korea, I believe this will strongly appeal to my users and represent us well.
Personally, these colors are also my favorite combination without a doubt.

Love this! Agreed on comments about the 7u missing from some smaller kits. I got excited when I saw a WASD kit with arrow sublegends and a HHKB kit with 6u, but sad when I didn’t see sublegend arrow keys for the classic HHKB layout (left bracket, semicolon, single quote, and forward slash). A missed opportunity there but still a decent set.

I see your point in the way you have kitted these out & somewhat agree with your line of thinking there. I agree mostly newcomers will be the ones ordering the layout specific base kits. However I do also think you should be offering a separate Tsangan kit for those who would want one of the layout specific base kits & access to 7u bottom row compatibility. Considering how many kits you have this split up into as it stands & the fact only the regular base kit comes with a 7u space + 1.5u mods, making one more small kit to cater to those who want a layout specific base with access to a 7u bottom row would not hurt the sales of this set in any way.

I see, that definitely adds some clarity as to why you did not add it already. Although I was more thinking of people who would grab the Tsangan kit with the 65% or 60% kits. With how aggressively priced this is already I think most people who are buying for a 75% or TKL would be much better off spending the extra $20 for the regular base kit. Anyways was just playing devil's advocate, personally I'll be buying the regular base with a good bit of the child kits. I'm sure whichever way you decide to run this will sell good, as even getting the regular base with numpad kit comes in $10 cheaper than most other GMK base kits (some of which don't even come with the numpad)!

Still feels like it might be worth considering since that would make 65%/60% + tsangan kit be less than $69. Though I do understand the complication of adding 1 more kit on top of the already very crowded set of kits.

Def like this pricing and hope we see more styles like this in the future so people only get exactly what they need. I will be going in on most child kits and regular Base+Artisan and mat $181 before shipping and taxes isn't bad at all imo.

Ignoring the smaller base kits since GH users are likely not the intended target audience for those:

Kitting looks pretty good, although it's worth noting that there doesn't seem to be a second 2.25u Shift anywhere, which means that 66%/66-key and similar layouts cannot be covered. It's up to you whether you think that key is worth including or not, as I do believe those layouts have fallen off in popularity over the past few years.

However, the numpad kit should really include R1 End, PgDn, otherwise 1800/CP/96-key and similar layouts cannot be covered either. And those layouts are still very popular. Example kit.

Catering to newcomers is fine, but not catering to enthusiasts is weird af. I can't get either 60% or HHKB because no tsangan bottom row support on either.

HHKB is almost there, just needs 2 more 1.5u bottom row keys.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. I like full kits because it means that the keycaps I buy will work on any board I own. Also I feel like it may be difficult for some vendors to get rid of some of the extras of some of the more niche kits. Could be wrong though.

Love the entrepreneurial spirit! Financing, marketing, go-to-market strategy. Geon you're a beast!

The business model is ambitious, and may disrupt the usual way of things. As a veteran enthusiast, it's usually preferable to purchase a full kit for full coverage all boards.

But, if we're talking about growing this hobby, then selling 60% boards and $39 GMK kits is going to rope a lot more people in. This is an opportunity to offer higher quality keycaps at more reasonable price points.

My 2 cents is that we need more quality GMK sets in this world and less dye-sublimated clone caps. GMK needs to be able to switch up their offerings so that they can step up their game and compete in the marketplace too.

GMK pricing has been unrealistic for a long time now, for what amounts to a heap of ABS plastic, and made even Lego look like a cheap value product.

Double and even triple shot injection technology has been around for ages now and has had time to mature and GMK has been in the business long enough that they had time to optimize production processes and logistics. There is no way a set of keycaps should still cost north of 100 bucks anymore. If your production costs are really still that high, you're doing something wrong. (Or you're doing something right if you can make people actually still buy for that price I guess)

Just as the prices of quality custom boards have fallen as the market matured it is goddamn time quality keycaps become affordable.

Personally I haven't bought a GMK set since GMK Lavender, cause there are just way better value keycaps out there for arguably better quality PBT.
