Introduction

Inspiration Behind the Name

The name draws from the classic line in *The Book of Songs*: "溯洄从之,道阻且长" ("Pursuing dreams is like rowing upstream; the path is arduous but rewarding"). It embodies our brand philosophy: Sail with dreams, brave the waves, and forge ahead relentlessly. We hope every user who chooses "Yisu" will fearlessly chase their goals.

Design

Design Journey

Since January 2024, we’ve dedicated over a year to perfecting this project. The tri-fold aluminum wrist rest posed unprecedented challenges, far surpassing plastic counterparts. After 10+ iterations of hinge designs, countless prototypes, and rejections from 7-8 factories claiming "impossible machining," we persevered. Today, ESU67 stands ready to redefine your keyboard experience.

Design Philosophy

"ESU67" is a foldable keyboard that integrates a dust cover and wrist rest. When unfolded, it serves as a wrist rest; when closed, it becomes a protective dust cover. Unlike traditional designs, this version features a tri-fold all-aluminum unibody paired with our newly developed magnetic wrist rest structure, enabling effortless assembly and disassembly. No matter how you flip it, the design remains sleek and functional—maximizing both practicality and customization potential.

Key Design Motivations

1.   Focus on Front-Facing Aesthetics
During the planning phase, our team questioned: "Why do most custom keyboards prioritize backside designs? Once placed on a desk, the back becomes invisible!" To address this, we reimagined the front-facing experience. The tri-fold "ESU67" ensures visual appeal from every angle. The magnetic wrist rest allows users to swap materials effortlessly—choose from leather, aluminum, forged carbon fiber, or dragon crystal ceramic panels. Say goodbye to cold hands in winter and hello to limitless creativity!

2.   Innovative Wrist Rest Construction
The wrist rest is built from three independent aluminum panels, connected not by traditional hinges but via 8 metal pins and magnets. Using the included magnetic tool, users can easily disassemble the panels for custom color combinations, DIY patterns, or material swaps—breaking free from conventional limitations.

3.   Hall Effect Power Management
We integrated a Hall effect sensor to automate power control:
○   Close the wrist rest: Keyboard powers off, preventing accidental keystrokes and saving battery.
○   Open the wrist rest: Keyboard powers on instantly.Ideal for cat owners worried about curious paws!

4.   CNC Aluminum Magnetic Top Case
The CNC-machined aluminum top case offers customizable color options. Default configurations include Black Gold, Silver Gold, and Red Gold.

5.   Backside Design Philosophy
The rear panel features a minimalist heart-shaped sketch by Eazsoo Studio, symbolizing "love at first touch."

Structural Overview

1.   Magnetic Quick-Release & Gasket Design

○   Magnetic snap-off system for easy disassembly.

○   Gasket-mounted structure with silicone dampeners, paired with a 3.5mm-thick sound-dampening stack:
▪   Imported PORON switch foam
▪   Switch pad (IXPE)
▪   Sound-optimizing PET film

○   PCB: 1.2mm black-core design with per-key flex cuts in the alphanumeric zone for balanced flex and stability.

○   Tri-mode connectivity (wired, Bluetooth 5.1, 2.4GHz wireless) with QMK/VIA support for effortless key remapping.

○   Includes a 2.4GHz receiver with the PCB.

2.   Modular Battery Compartment

○   Separate battery housing isolates the battery and daughterboard from the main internals.

○   Magnetic pin connectors replace traditional ribbon cables, simplifying internal swaps and reducing installation risks.

Benefit: Effortlessly remove the internal assembly without tedious cable management, significantly improving user-friendliness and error tolerance.

It would be great if they remove all those flex-cuts from the PCB, and add support for Split Backspace, Stepped CapsLock, 7U Bottom Row and screw-in stabs instead, besides making it a 1.6mm PCB as well.

Normally not into bigger keyboards these days, but the aesthetic of this board coupled with the cover is pretty slick!
