DIY trackball kits

Does anyone know of any good trackball kits? I am looking at making a keyboard with an integrated trackball. Curious if anyone has any any experience with cheaper/diy type builds. Ideally, I would be able to mount the trackball hardware to the plate from the bottom so the trackball is flush with the plate.
Something I had found on my search was the
http://xahlee.info/kbd/aball_trackball.html
. This is very close to what I am looking for, just curious if there are better kits than something like this.

I'd check out the Ploopy Nano if you haven't already found something. The bearings might sit a little too far up for your purposes, but it is open source so you could modify it to suit your needs.
