Topre Realforce 87U ANSI or JIS?
« on: Fri, 03 April 2015, 09:20:32 »
Hello,

I have a friend in who is in Tokyo until Monday, and Sunday he will have the whole day to himself.

I want to ask him to get me a 55g Topre Realforce 87u Silent.

I am wondering now, what would the JIS layout mean to me, an European who uses ISO and ANSI?

Can I use the extra keys that JIS has?

Thank you!

P.S.: the JIS version seems to be cheaper, at least on amazon.jp

Aside from the large enter key, JIS isn't really comparable to ISO. JIS has a few extra modifier keys to input different kana and kanji characters. Here is what the Japanese Realforce looks like. If you're comfortable using ANSI, I would go for that.

yes, I saw a few images. I was actually wondering if I can use those keys (macros, shortcuts, etc.)
I'll modify my original post to make this clear

Speaking from a person that Uses ANSI, I think I would hate the layout.  As far as the extra keys I think you would either need a converter to remap the keys, or use software remapping, though for software remapping they layout itself might cause issues.  Someone with more expertise probably needs to weigh in.
