I once asked them what switches they are using... Never got an answer. Even for April 1st.

  • "Typing on it, well, sucks. We kind of hate to say it, but this thing more than likely won't replace what ever keyboard you're writing your novel on -- it's better off used as an absurdly configurable swiss army knife for tasks like gaming, Photoshop, or just about any other productivity app that doesn't require a lot of typing.
  • Okay, why does typing on the Optimus suck, you ask? Well, although the keyboard uses mechanical switches and a lot of high quality components (evident when we pulled off some keys), and there is some clicky tactility to keypresses, as a whole it just requires way too much force to depress keys. And the larger the key, the more force is required, so enter is easier than space, but harder than tab. Let's put it this way, we sit around and type all day long and this thing wore us out in about 30 seconds to a minute. Carpal sufferers, beware."

The optimus could be severely improved by changing the type of everything in use lol. If you are going to charge that much for a keyboard, why not get some decent switches? I have an ML board and I hate that thing. I would get rid of it if it weren't for all the work I put into it. All in all though, they really ought to use e-ink for the display type. They might not get color, but it would improve so many aspects of the board.
Currently own:
Das S Ultimate with Browns
Cherry G84-4100 with ML Linear switches
Memorex Telex with NMB Space Invaders
Leopold with Blues

e-ink is slow, and doesn't emit any light.

Do you really want a 1500$ keyboard that is not even backlit ?

Seems like the right solution for legends.

Art Lebedev was disappointing in that video.

Veronica though, never disappoints.

The are not just static legends, a decent display can be used for a wide variety of useful purposes, and also useless but funny, think to a "keyboard saver" or to a keyboard virus with all the keys randomly scrambled or falling, matrix style..

Yes, please.

I'm now, probably at the 10th year of backlit only keyboards.

I really cant think to use a non backlit one other than for affective/historical purposes.

BTW an EL or e-paper low end version can be handy in the office environment.

Lot of disagreement about the shape of the enter key, but widely shared opinion on the shape of Veronica's "trackballs" here, isn't it ?
