[Interest Check] Steve Jobs MX key cap
« on: Tue, 18 October 2011, 22:54:49 »
Are you guys interested in this key cap? It's laser-etched. Made by PBT. R4 row.

Not sure about the price yet, depending on how many people are interested. Should be $10-15 plus shipping if at least 50 people are interested.

Yea, I am with Jrock and Litster; its kind of awkward to remember someone by monetizing their name/image and then having to look at it every day.

If I were to get one it would be for novelty purpose only but the price is kinda high for just a single keycap...  well, for me anyway.

Can't blame the Chinese for trying any opportunity to make a buck.  Feng, maybe you can do a group buy for the Chinese flag keycap.  Are there other flag keycaps available?

The proportions are weird. I like the Jobs-Apple icon but it's way massive and I could do with out his birth and death date.

Since many Chinese(more than 30 I think) have purchased this keycap, I thought Americans gotta be more interested. But I was probably wrong. :s    The reason I didn't do a group buy for the Chinese flag keycap is because I thought no body in the forum would be interested.

Okay clearly the main issue is with the birth and death date... Any way we can get it without that? I'm sure there would be a lot of demand for it if there was. What kind of keycap is it? Looks like a Doubleshot.

Honestly though, the man defined my career choice, I want it as it is. I'll pay $15 for that **** no problem. LMK where to pay.jpg

So row 4 means that it's meant to fit... somewhere in the asdf row? Why not row 2 or something more practical. I suppose I could put it on A or S...

Steve Jobs has been a huge inspiration in my life as well. My current career path has also been largely influenced by him. To be honest, I never cared much about the other Apple product lines though; I have only owned and plan to own MacBook Pros and have used iMacs at work. Never owned an iPod, iPhone, or iPad which baffles my friends.

But back on topic. I'm not too sure I would want a "tombstone" on my keyboard as well... As previously mentioned though, by removing the dates and just keeping the "Steve Jobs" Apple logo that may look fine and pique my interest.

Oh yes, I forgot to mention I doubt I would pay that much for a single key cap with the design in question. Something a bit more reasonable please!

I'll try to break the price down to less than $10 and the shipping usually costs $2 for continental U.S. Again, the price really depends on how many people want it.

lol, that's a coincidence, row 4, is the death row, or rather 4 means death in chinese, kinda like friday the 13th' and how there's no 13th floor in most buildings, chinese ppl do not like the number 4.
that along with the tombstone death numbers
and the apple bite jobs face

along with the fact that it's made to fit on the esc key, the "lone" key of the keyboard since it's so separated from every other key

it's really creeper.

Fair enough, back when I was in middle school the original iMac came out and my school district bought a bunch of them for everywhere and from that point I was a fan, everything was just simpler and better. I always disliked the "control freak" lack of freedom to do whatever you wanted with Apple, but in exchange you get a much more refined user experience. So far I've owned/purchased a MBP, an iMac, 2 Cinema HD displays (23" and 30") and various iPods along with the times... I'll be getting an iPhone 5 whenever that comes out, and maaaaaybe an iPad 3. The iPad isn't really necessary for my life but would be pretty nifty to have for the lulz.

The main thing that has always really inspired me about Apple is just the simple fact that it gives customers what they want. They consistently produce the things that make as many of their fanbase happily disregard income and acquire gadgets. Where M$ has always tried to gouge and nickle and dime customers wherever possible, all you get with Apple is the high initial cost that comes with basically everything you can buy from them. A good portion of that goes to higher quality than competitors, the rest is a reasonable markup for profit margins and I respect that.

Whether you're a fan of Apple or not, not a single person has ever achieved what Steve has... taking a company that was on the verge of bankruptcy and making it the world's largest company in a decade. Top that world. Yeah I didn't think so.

I don't hate/dislike Apple products and I will probably pick up something other than a MBP eventually but I find all their stuff getting shinier and shinier... and I much prefer matte. I could go on and on about their products and some of the decisions they made through the past 10-15 years but I'll save that for another day/thread. Still admire the guy and what he's done.
