I've tried reds, blues, blacks, and both Topre 45 g uniform & Topre variable. I have not tried browns.
That said, I bought a HHKB Pro 2 w/ 45g topre switches for typing and playing SC2, while under the impression that its tactile bump would help me identify and confirm keystrokes. I was right, because I switched to a realforce w/ variable switches which had 35g keys on the lefthand side which felt, to me, nearly identical to reds. They were so soft and mushy that I kept pressing them on accident, and the tactile bump could hardly be felt at all that I was unsure whether I was registering a keystroke unless I was observing the bottom of my screen at all times. In short, I've been mistyping way more since switching to a variable board, and the experience has made me wary of reds and wanting to go back to a 45g Topre.
On the other hand I'm sure reds would be fine for FPS gaming as your keyboard hand is far less active than in RTS games. As for typing I cannot comment.
