it seems there are plenty of colors available in the not additionally "thick" just not grey

Thick style are also Cherry profile which are lower and have a more solid typing feel. If you want something cheaper and are good with a very light grey, you could always harvest the caps off a Cherry board like this one... and get a decent keyboard along with them.

I have a set of dark grey PBT's that are not from imsto. They're a tad thinner, slightly higher in profile, but weights more. Don't ask me what set they are, I'm still trying to figure that out till this day. I got them in a trade. So there are more exotic sets out there, you just gotta look for them.
