I have always played FPS games, and have always been "aware" of the existence of Tribes, but had never played it until now. I feel like I missed out on years of something awesome.

I put in about 30 hours of play since release, and have been enjoying it immensely. Even decided to spend 50 bucks on the cheater pack and unlock a bunch of stuff. The skill cap seems quite high, and there is a lot of variety within play, so I think it ought to have some staying power.

I would be greatly interested in playing with some other people - right now it's just me and two other friends on a mumble server. Add DanTheManPR

I played this game since closed beta, and played the original tribes over 10 years ago.

This is THE greatest shooter ever made.

My in game name is: Deicide

I have pretty much EVERYTHING unlocked and i hang out on reddit/r/tribes and do tons of scrims off there. Come chill with us. We do alot of Reddit vs 4chan scrims.

Ah, I didn't realize there was a thread for this on here. I just picked this up yesterday and fell in love. I played the old Tribes a bit back in the day, but wasn't too into it. This, however, has been fantastic and I've really enjoyed my time with it so far - so much so that I went VIP right away. Since yesterday I've been consistently coming in the top 3 in matches I've played and it's been a really intense experience.

My class of choice is Infiltrator with the stickies, mines and throwing knives - it's incredibly fun and fits my play style perfectly. My in-game nick is Striketh, so feel free to hit me up sometime. I'd love to play with ya'll!

One of my all time favorite games, and the sequel is actually pretty great. Too bad most of the pub games are sucky, imbalanced and full of immature people.

Oh man... this one. Having been a hardcore Starsiege: Tribes player back in the day, I'm a bit on the fence about T:A. A lot of people seem to like it though.

Idunno, it just doesn't feel like Tribes. But then, nothing since S:T really has.

I thought the same. Ofc, that community had sorted out the nice people over time and the current community is full with, well, lets call them special people. They have imho succeeded in creating w worthy successor and the game resembles the old one a lot, which to me is a good thing.

You have to remember that they need to focus on the now and not 10 years ago! The game is very much skill based, it's incredibly fast and tons of fun. Net code is great with rarely a moment of lag despite all of that, the maps and sky boxes look wonderful and the new maps are extremely cool looking. This is a game made for CTF, really (I'm not keen on the other modes).

What I love is that, while there is a cash shop in this game, there's no way to pay to win. Even though I unlocked most everything with gold (I'm impatient, what can I say?) none of the classes or weapons are overpowered, so people that have played longer and are better than me still whoop my ass in a fight. Also, because of the speed of this game things like aimbots aren't really affective in it, so I doubt we'll see too many (if any at all) cheaters.

Looking forward to sinking some more time into this - would be cool to get some kind of private server setup too.

Especially that you need to predict movements to hit, which aimbots can't they can only assume that you will go in your current path while a human brain can anticipate movement, like what way the player will turn etc.

There was some discussion about the jackal or whatever it is called, that it might be a bit imba.

Yup, CTF all the way. PTH myself. I play much less now though, capping and chasing is too easy in public games and you get bored after a while. Private games anyone?

I used to play this game. I won a beta key at a lan.
I've played it since the first closed beta.
THey started ruining the game. It used to be a old school fast paced fps. Point and shoot etc. Now they've included airstrikes, turrets and all kinds of bull****.

Really? The air strikes and turrets bother you that much? I see no issue with them - they fit in with the pace of the game well and they require a significant amount of points to be able to use. It's not like you can just spam them. Turrets are also necessary to protect generators and critical spots on the map since as an Infiltrator without turrets you'd be pretty much uncontested. Nothing in this game has been "ruined" - it's called balance.

I'd be up for a private server, but I'm still a nub so I'd probably be no challenge :P I mostly stick to base defense right now since my aim isn't all that great.

The Jackal is the gun that shoots the stickies - it's not really OP as it's very situational. It only works indoors effectively, though I suppose if you're amazing you can use it as kind of a cluster bomb in the air. I use it for setting traps around generator rooms, or setting them on the flag and waiting for someone to try and take it, and so on. It doesn't really do jack against heavies, though.

Just played a game since it was a while ago. Apparently capping with soldier is the new thing, and the impact nitrons have been nerfed so I see their point.

I'm all for skill and there's plenty to be had in Tribes: Ascend. The thing I like about the air strikes is that if the enemy has a crap ton of turrets all over the place around their base and tons of people around the flag it's near impossible to get a cap, let alone get more than 100 yards from the base. Air strikes give you a way to temporarily clear the flag out so you can actually get past the camp and get in there to get the flag. Since they require a ton of points to use most people might only get 1 or 2 air strikes in a match if they do well. If you don't do well then no air strikes for you!

I'm rank 17. My T:A username is also csm725, feel free to add me and I'll harass you a bit if I catch you in game!
And yes, strikes are total BS. They aren't allowed in competitive games or PUGs (pick up games), and there are good reasons for that.
You basically earn your credits back with an Orbital and eventually (especially in CTF Blitz) every player has 10k credits.
Speaking of Blitz, the last flag positions are incredibly hard to attack. You need good teamwork and to cluster the hell out of it (and to get lucky and not be annihilated by the Orbital spam).
I play soldier (light offense). Spinfusor + Thumper D + Proxy Grenade + Util Pack + Quick Draw + Safety 3rd
Once you get the hang of it, blue plates and air mails (their explosive weapon counterpart) are much easier to achieve, but still extremely satisfying!
In pubs (public games) you will see soldier and even brute capping. However pathfinders still remain the superior capping class, and any good capper has 250kph+ routes on most maps and knows them by heart - no other class can achieve that...

I don't think the PTH is the best capper anymore. They were way too nerfed recently and soldiers are now the best cappers. They hit at the same speeds and do so with 3 times as much hp. They survive shields, mines and pretty much any weapon that the defenders may try.

Edit: In the video above is a route which nets you a 320-330 cap at 1300hp with a very fast return route. Even though a PTH may get 340-360, they only reach that if they spam grenades and shots until they are at pretty much no hp.

I've been watching some of the competitive leagues and they even commented at one point how it's mostly all mediums and heavies now with very few people really wanting to play pathfinder anymore. To be honest, I like pathfinder, but I can totally see why people prefer soldier.

I joined up with TAW, so I'm going to start playing with them tomorrow night. Played with a few of them and they've been quite good so far - one of the guys I played with had like 28 blue plates in a match. I was just like 0_o

I just stated what I had found recently when I came back to the game after not having played it for a while.

I have tried the SLD now and must say I still prefer PTH. It seems to hard to turn and do adjustments to your route with the soldier, and I am not good enough to always hit my routes perfectly, so I need to be able to turn a bit better.

I like the soldier for flag escorting and emergency pickups. Since he has more HP he's better suited for grabbing the flag under fire and has better weapons for defending himself. I do love the LMG on the Pathfinder, though. That thing is awesome and I usually beast people up with it when they do the "thrust has high as I can while waiting to see who runs out of thrust first" maneuver :D

Just an FYI, I'll be live streaming practice matches on Thursdays and Sundays from 9 pm EST to about 10:30 - 11 pm EST with TAW. Aside from that I'll be streaming pubs, random stuff, and some Firefall which is an up and coming free to play FPS which I got a beta key for.

Stream is here for anyone interested: http://twitch.tv/striketh
