I'm tempted to get the DS version to see if a UV LED underneath were able to excite it enough to show on the top side.

That's about the ****tiest Halloween-esque type of font they could have used. No thanks, I'll just wait for Techkeys.

But it's only those 10 keys, right?

A 104 (or 87) set would be cool - a different look to a backlit board.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

And with different colour backlighting.  Green might be best (he said, typing on a Ducky Shine with green LEDs).

I'd assume it possible to do a "ghost" set with double-shot glow-in-the-dark legends and the same color plastic for the key.  So the fanciness only shows in the dark or when your hands are over the keys.  Would be magnificent.

i agree, i experimented with this a little already but i'll have to do more work to get the colors right.
