Tipro software
« on: Fri, 28 December 2012, 17:40:53 »
I recently got a DigiPoS keyboard from DT secret Santa but I can't get the ChangeMe utility to recognize the keyboard. It's powered and beeps if I press more than 5 buttons. I think it could be my PS2 port, but it works fine with my G80-3700, so I'm not sure what the issue is.

Would running W7 64bit be a problem? Any other ideas on how to get this working?

Thanks in advance

It won't work when plugged to the G80-3700 and reaching it through that one. I have several boards which don't work well when plugged to the 3700.

If it is plugged directly to the pc, then I have no idea.

Nope it's plugged directly into my PS2 port. I was just using the G80-3700 of an example of why I don't think it's the PS2 port.

I'm going to try it on my moms computer running 32bit Xp and see if it works there.

The only reason I have XP installed on the htpc is to program keyboards. Tipro might be the same as Cherry in that regard.

I just checked, no PS2 connector :(. I'm now a sad panda.

Could I buy a PS2 to usb adapter, might that work?

BTW I just plug in my G80-3700 into the other port on the tipro, it works. This is just weird

Yup, just confirmed on a DT thread I NEED a 32 bit OS to use the ChangeMe utility. That really suck since I'd have to find a 32 bit OS everytime I want to change a key :(

I am sad about this, it would make an amazing macro pad for work or home

There was a guide here... let me grab it...
EDIT:
I can't seem to find it... I've been digging for the last half hour... I'll continue to see if I can't find it.

Thanks a ton if you find it, but from what I've heard at DT, the Tipro 12x8 doesn't work over PS2 if your using a 64 bit system.

It really sucks since the only 32 bit system's I can use are my moms and my brothers but that doesn't help when you're 3 1/2 hours away at school and want to change the F1 key to a W or something like that :(

I recall there being a very comprehensive guide on it... I said I wanted a Tipro because of it... DAMMIT. It's annoying me quite a bit that I can't find it.

Edit: It was Access-is, so I don't know if it will help, but here you go.

Regarding adapter, it probably won't work either. I can again only speak of the Cherry programming software, but so far they seem similar. I had to put 32bit XP on my htpc and get a mobo with native PS/2 just to be able to program my daily driver.

So far, Tipro has been the same so I would venture a guess and say that adapters won't work if you want to program it, although they will work fine once it is programmed.

Right, every programmable keyboard I have encountered can't program on x64. There is some issues with x64 Windows to give ring0 hardware access, and I think the keyboard companies are too lazy to make those additional software to make it work. Programming through bluecube or something dosen't seem to work well either. Best to keep an old legacy pc for these type of thing with native ps/2 and xp or 98 if you want to dual purpose it as a retro gamer for old games that don't work right in VM/DOSbox.

Would I install a version on Linux and maybe Wine to program it?

The 'full fledged XP compatibility mode'-thingy included in the larger windows 7 versions did not work for me. I wouldn't expect wine to do any better honestly.

I don't think you can use a virtual install since it's still going through a 64 bit interface to get to the virtual install (I can't computer terms)

But I guess when I think of it, wine is kinda the same thing as that :(

Try that Access-IS stuff. IIRC, Tipro makes Access-IS boards.

You could find yourself an XP WinPE and stick it on a USB stick along with the programming utility.

Can you enlighten me on what Access-IS is?

I don't have a copy of XP laying around :( (not a legit one anyways)

Access IS is a keyboard brand, they can be found easily on ebay UK for example :

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ACCESS-IS-POS-KEYBOARD-AKE0CTF201-AKEOCTF201-3-ACCESS-Retail-/190776280531?pt=UK_Computing_ComputerComponents_KeyboardsMice&hash=item2c6b2705d3

All the boards I've seen are at most 15 keys wide where the tipro 128 key matrix is 16. It may not seem much but it can make a real difference when it comes to programming your layout the way you want it to be.

If you ever want to program your tipro on a 64 bit os, then you either need to change the controller to a USB one (around 30 euros + shipping from tipro directly) or find a USB powered board and harvest it. Please note this will work only on recent PCBs however, kbdfr on DT said the ones produced after 2002 I think.

USB matrix boards are the TM series, they have a plastic case with integrated cable management on the backside, and the case is sharper (look at the bottom). The one you have is from the older MID series, it has a rounder case and metal plate on the backside.

I personnally use a USB 128 keys matrix as my daily driver and it's wonderful. There are currently some offers for them on ebay Germany. If you are interested I can give you a link but shipping will be insane...

-- edit --

I may have a spare USB controller somewhere, let me know if you would be interested.

Would the USB controller work on this?

I'd open it up and take pictures of the inside if you want

Well, I need to ask kbdfr about the numbers to look for and will get back to you, but you will most probably have to open it up. Better wait until I know more though.

And that's a 12*8 matrix, mine is a 16*8. I need to make sure that will not make too much of a difference.
