Noob WiFi Keyboard question
« on: Sat, 26 January 2013, 18:17:22 »
I feel a bit stupid asking but I just spent 30min on Google and going nowhere.

Is there such thing as WiFi keyboards?

I found gazilion wireless solutions mainly with bluetooth but nothing on WiFi.

What I have in mind is a WiFi input device using a WiFi network protocol to transmit keyboard commands to a listening PC.

I know that there is an Android app that will do it, however the keyboards labeled WIFI, are actually just using the same frequency, since it's less regulated. It still needs a receiver.

The problem you may be missing, is you need a way to connect the two together. A receiver solves this, but if you went through your home wifi you have two issues, one is potential lag and the other is that not only do you have to get your computer to see the keyboard (vice versa), you would most likely also need to connect to your home wifi. Your computers wifi system wasn't designed for direct connection and in fact some purposely disable that function so you cannot use it as a router or relay.

Can what you are asking be done, yes, but not so easy.

Hum ok... from your answer it sounds like there is no such thing as a off the shelf WiFi keyboard.
It would also be hard to authenticate on the router without a display.

Thanks for your time anyway :-)
