Someone mentioned that the only way to get in on the sale was to cheat ( send e-mails early or spam them).
I got in simply by sending a prepared e-mail when the counter ended. Nothing more nothing less. While I do not know what kind of effect such an unfair tactic would have on your chances, I do not think it is a necessity. Taking some other members by their word, it does not seem the majority of people who got in used such a strategy.

I think people are frustrated because there is a large element of luck involved. This is easily accepted when it is a lottery for example, but maybe a little harder to come to terms with if people believe they can affect the outcome.
I hope the people who did not get in will get in next time. Almost feel bad about winning.
Don't feel bad! I'm sure most of the winners did so with a single well-timed email. Enjoy your clacks, and congrats!
I just can't stop thinking that the rules allow the brute-force spam attack and I'm sure some exploited it and won.
I publicly pointed this out, and it rightfully got people riled up, both from a fairness point of view, and out of respect for cc's sanity.
Then that thread got locked in the middle of this discussion, and I got pissed and accused the mods, then apologized to the mods when I learned that the person who locked the thread was in fact the OP.
That's pretty much the gist of it so far.
