Closest replacement for a Magitronic FK-2000Plus?
« on: Wed, 31 July 2013, 13:27:33 »
A long-time user of a Magitronic FK-2000Plus would like to replace it with a Windows/USB keyboard that feels exactly the same. The FK-2000Plus has Alps white clicky switches that I measured to have an average activation force of 57g.

I tried a keyboard with Cherry Blues, but they were too light and had a much less pronounced click. These Alps whites seem to be somewhere between the Blues and IBM buckling-springs in terms of the click.

I thought the Matias keyboards might be a good match, since the switches are supposed to be clones of the Alps, but I read that the weight feels much less than the intended 60g.

Any suggestions?

Uh, yeah. The FK-2000Plus is just a branded FK-2001 essentially.

Daily Drivers: Adesso 625 (NPKC PBT / Kailh Blue), Rosewill RK9000V2 (KC PBT / MX Brown), 1994 Model M13, Sun Type4, and the rare IBM 1394540.

Buy a Matias board and a FK-2001, swap the clicky white switches into the Matias. Or if you can get your hands on a Filco Zero do that but those are super rare.

I know its preference, but I dont think matias tactile switches are too far off white alps, so the swap might not even be necesary.

I say: buy the matias first, then a donor kb second if it's not close enough.
