« on: Thu, 04 June 2009, 21:21:29 »
I have been using this Viglen for quite a few years and have yet to see another with the close set (but standard layout) keys, any help.
It has white Alps which I think are the bigfoot type, its a while since I pulled the one that fly's apart when doing so and got a good look inside as I rebuilt it.

Pretty cool.  Looks like it has the same size enter and secondary keys as a siig minitouch, but full size. huh.  Also has a place for a buzzer and other stuff, really cool.

Acer/Viglen 'boards have used mechanical on membrane switches in the past that looked like Alps switches but weren't:

Yours look different though. Maybe open the board and see what you find (pcb or membrane).

Acers have the same stem, but the body of the switch is completely different, you can tell what they are right off.  That photo is pretty dim, but looks like alps as far as I can see...  Of course the only way to be sure is to pull one apart, which he should do to see what kind of alps switch it is anyway.

Cheers for all the swift replies, while reading and switching between computers I lost my monitor :(  It took me two day looking round the loft to find this one, but dropping down to 1600 x 1200 is hard work. But as I am one of the few that still use CRT I hope to get something from ebay soon.

Thanks for all of the info, IIRC there is a printed board not membrane, the switches have ALPS and 24b and checking with some sites they are this type...alps bigfoot.

It needs more of a clean so I will get a few more photos when its next open, I also have some other old mechanical boards some DTK's which I think are just rubber dome, a very large IBM style board that is branded Panasonic which is either buckling-spring or Alps.

I am also looking for a new board with Cherry blues for work, if I can get away with them.
Thanks for all the help.

There's a Viglen board that's just come up on ebay UK with those types of switches: http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?t=6167

Yours looks like a nice keyboard, I'd be interested to know how long it is.

EDIT: It looks like the model is DFK2020 and an updated version was shown by Datacomp Electronics at Computex 2008: http://www.iqmore.idv.tw/archives/194/1

That DFK2020 does look to have the same Key layout the first one I have seen, but it is just the upgraded model from what I can see as this also has part of the serial number 2020 in it, and can also be seen on the PCB.

As for the size 16 and a half inches or 42 cm/422 mm length by 6 inches, 153 mm.

Gutted, that I did not see this before, I would jump at the chance to get another  :-\
Even though I have quite a few ALPS boards this is the one I like the best and keep going back to.
