The Manly Unicorn
« on: Mon, 08 September 2014, 20:12:41 »
Ever mock up a key cap set that's so god awful you secretly want to see it made up.  I present to you the Manly Unicorn.

And just as a reminder:

I cannot claim drugs or alcohol on this one, just a long day that needed some levity at the end of it.

Maybe...only not an IC yet.  It really is so god awful that part of me wants to do it...ironically of course, not because I really like it or anything...

Nice WASD ;D
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

GMK only has eraser pink and magenta.  I could see if I can make it work.

Edit:  The layout editor doesn't have the correct GMK colors so I had to do a crappy adjustment.  It would end up looking something like this with GMK:

Also, probably change the legend to yellow instead of purple on the magenta caps.

I have a hard time seeing something like this hit a GMK MOQ, but it is fun to think about.

With a bit more red in the middle, and a few more yellow and dark blue, you'd be nudging up towards Handarbeit!

Manly Unicorn > Handerbeit

I think it only matches it in eclecticism, not in color scheme.

I think it needs some unicorn farts and booze caps

Wait, what's wrong with bronies?

This set.

So, is GMK double-shot-PBT? I know they use slightly different profiles ... do they have a DSA-alike? I'd tried an MLP-dvorak-ergodox IC. Got no responses of note. But would still like these colors, although the SP colorset in the initial post has recognizable pony colors ... but it's an odd pairing, Lyra and Pinkie but no Rarity or Dash. </shrug>

I might still buy in.

I would totally buy a GMK set of this, but one suggestion. Make the yellow WASD and green keys optional. I'd rather have teal spacebar and capslock (though I suppose I could buy those individually). And PLZ PLZ PLZ make a 1.75x Control key (row 3 control) :D

I have no clue what you're talking about.  This set is supposed to represent the apogee of masculinity...and for women confident in their femininity.  None of this "brony" weirdness.

I'll be moving this to IC tonight.  If it is GMK, there won't be any novelties.

Hopefully the numbers are there for GMK, otherwise it will have to go SP.
