Wheelwriter 3 Typewriter Question
« on: Wed, 20 August 2014, 23:55:37 »
I have the keyboard from a (dirty) wheelwriter 3 typewriter, and aside from harvesting the caps, is there anything to do with the husk, or otherwise worth harvesting?

Bonus: I have about 0 soldering ability, so this isn't going to be one of those situations where I make a custom controller for it. And it's quite heavy, so shipping it to someone is probably out too.

you can remove the KB and mail it to me. I'll put new keycaps on it, bolt mod it and use it as a "cheap SSK".

More importantly, do you plan to use the "code" key and spacebar? I'm collecting those for an idea I've got.

All levity aside, you can harvest the springs / hammers from it as well. You can practise your bolt modding skills, etc.

ooh, measure the o-rings (or just mail them to me). I want to give them a try.

No no, you should send the "code" key to me. I also have an idea for something to do with them. :-)

Dorkvader can have the spacebar though.

I think the Code key will actually fit on my unicomp where the right Alt and menu key is on the lower right, if I replace the control key with a 1x wide.

So I think that's going to happen.

dangit, all three of us had the same idea.

I was going to keep this secret until I made one work, but you can sack one of the mods and use the WW spacebar and code key instead.

We should put together a wiki article about this.
