CM Storm QuickFire XT vs Rosewill Helios RK-9200BR
« on: Mon, 06 October 2014, 18:13:16 »
Hey guys, I've never had a mech before and looking into buying my first one.  I've tried out a couple switches and I like browns the best and I'm stuck between the QUickFire XT and Rosewill Helios BR. Which one do you guys think is better or is there a better keyboard I can get for similar price?  Thanks.

Well, I've never used a Rosewill before, but Quickfires are usually a solid board to start with and pretty popular with beginners (though not as much as QFRs)

It really depends on whether you really want back lighting or not.  If you can live without backlighting then I would highly recommend the XT.  It was one of my first keyboards, and was an absolute pleasure to use.  I also love that there's a full size USB connector instead of the mini ones that come standard on most keyboards today.

Definitely the quickfire. It has so much more potential IMO. You can even get one of these fancy Ghost Squid controllers to make it fully programmable.

Hmmmmm if I remember correctly Rosewill Helios is a Costar board also isn't it?

Though I'd assume QuickFire XT is more tested and proven, so I'd go with that.  :P

XT all the way.

I love mine, even though I've spent much more money on other keyboards, and have several laying around that I don't use and eventually sell off, the XT is the one I still hold on to, and is probably my favorite. ( mine is pretty heavily modded though )

What sort of mods did you do to your XT??

Painted, front printed caps, changed the crazy bright red leds to whites, and dimmed them a bit with a resistor, lubed blacks ( has the red plate ) and clay weighted

Thinking about buying a controller for it too.

I went cheap and go the Rosewill Helious MX Brown for my work computer.  But, you get what you pay for.  It was on sale, but I the quality is definitely lacking compared to Ducky and other brands.  Keycaps are as snug as the Ducky's and the mini-usb port where the cable attaches to the keyboard is flaky.  If you occasionally bump your keyboard, the backlight will go out and you'll have to reset everything back since there is no onboard memory for the backlight.  Overall, it just feels cheap.

I'll probably upgrade it when I get another keyboard for my home computer and bring that one to work.
