what happened to quickfire stealth mx green?
« on: Fri, 17 October 2014, 10:37:22 »
I've been wanting a qfr stealth with green switches for a while but now it doesn't seem to be available anywhere. What happened to it and how can I get it?

Oh, okay. Is there anywhere I can still get it that you know of or would I have to ask on the classifieds?

Good luck finding one!

Sounds like I was lucky getting mine - it's fantastic!

Just a little warning, but you probably have an idea also. This is an often-sold keyboard, and it often takes a while to sell. Which suggests that most people who bought don't quite like it.

I love Clears. I'd think Green is the clicky version of Clears. Same weight, right? I'll be wondering why people don't like Green.

To these old hands the Greens feel ever so slightly stiffer than Clears.  While not much of a difference I make more mistakes typing on Greens.

Greens were (to me) the most disappointing Cherry switch - I was hoping they were more like buckling spring or white alps.  Nope nope nope! :(

I personally liked greens, but did not like the keyboards they came with. Why is CM the only keyboard maker producing greens? My personal opinion is that blue stems with clear springs are more crisp than blue stems with black springs/ real greens.

This is exactly what I hope Greens feel like. Stiffer, buckling springs feel with clicky noise. Damn! I probably need to change my JD40 order!

It's the same kind of tactility as MX Blue, only with a stiffer spring. Put an MX Black spring into an MX Blue switch and you get the idea (it's called ghetto green for a reason after all).

Nothing to do with MX Clear, which is much more tactile in a way similar to rubber domes, and has a steeper force/travel curve due to a different spring with fewer coils.

Quite far from buckling spring too, except for stiffness. BS has sharper tactility, different actuation point and more aggressive sound (not so high-pitched though).

I got single switches of each type as well as having a model m and I feel that the mx green is much more tactile than blue and bs

If I was to which felt stiffer, I'd probably give the nod to Clears, but Greens and Clears feel pretty close in force to me. That being said, they're both quite easy to bottom out on.

And given that Greens have mostly disappeared, I'm glad I got my QFS with Greens when I did.

Notice the steep curve. From 40 cN to 65 cN and then from 60 cN to 100 cN.

For comparison, see rknize's spring measurements.

Everyone else I've heard who has tried both greens and BS say that greens feel more stiff. IIRC greens actually have a higher actuation force than BS as well. Do BS actually feel more stiff to you?

BS is all over the road map.  I've had several 1390120's and they were much lighter / more pleasurable to to type on.   That is the model to try out if you think Buckling Springs are too much for you.

BS on the model m's I've used certainly felt stiffer. But on my bigfoot F it was a little lighter. depends on what model you have. As for boards with greens, you might be better off with a WASD barebones than a QFR

nothing's wrong with it per se, but the WASD is just a better keyboard.

Yes, BS feels stiffer.  I am currently alternating between Model M at home and QFS MX green at work.
