Fubata switch EAT-1010 keyboard question

Found a local one on Facebook missing the enter and right shift keys.  Picking it up tomorrow for $5.00.  How hard is it to find replacement caps and any comments on the switch feel.  (I have read the wiki).

The Futaba switch is interesting. Mine probably isn't the best representation of it, as half of the switches are worn out, but to me it feels close to an IBM Beam Spring but slightly stiffer. They switch really 'pops' for lack of a better term.

There are rubber dome variants of the Futaba switch in Sejin keyboards that use the same inverse-MX slider. They should have compatible caps but the stabilizers or keys larger than 1.5x might not line up. http://deskthority.net/wiki/Sejin_Futaba-mount_dome

Picked it up today.  Kinda rough condition with the missing keys, 3 missing stabilizers and missing stabs and a screw hole or stabilizer piece of plastic is broke.  Also one key cap was stuck and about pulled the whole switch out.  (I think it was f12.  Also it looks like someone spilled a bit of Pop on it.  Forgot to grab a at to ps2 converter from work so I can't test it till at least tomorrow.

As for the switch feel, I think it is pretty dissimilar to buckling spring.  Maybe more along the lines of mx brown.  If this makes sense or not idk but the sound to me is like buckling spring without the ping and "meat".  I think some of the switches are worn out a bit but overall I quite like the switch feel but wouldn't pay a lot for a board.

Key caps are double shot.  I'm assuming abs but no idea how to tell without acetone.  Thought they were cool though as this is my first keyboard with double shots.

Hoping I can find a cheap replacement enter,right shift, and numpad - key along with the stabs and stabilizers.  I very much want to try to use the board at work.  I've taken before pictures and tear down pictures I'll try to post in a bit.  Hopefully tomorrow I'll get it cleaned and post some after pictures.

Interesting. From this I can surmise that your one doesn't sound like this:

I only have the one switch, but it's very tactile and makes a loud click; it would not surprise me if a keyboard full of mine sounded like that video. (There's another question: why the distinct difference in twang pitch between keys in both Futaba and Model F?)

It sounds pretty similar to the video.  Noise isn't really an issue as I currently use clicky space invaders and have been contemplating using a model m or f once I finish a project and have a working one.  As far as pinging between the f and fubata the f has more of a high pitched tink and fubata is more of a plasticy thunk.  I will do some more comparing today and try to give a better description, and some audio if possible.  No pics yet.  Still in bed on my phone right now, only got 4 hours of sleep so I don't feel like being constructive yet.

the board itself in the video resembles my leading edge dc2214..........

i have a couple of futaba's, but do not recall them being that loud?

does yours have the big honking enter on it?

cleaned.  Has many small rust spots but decided it wasn't worth my time to fix them.


whole board cleaned.  Its hard to tell but some of the caps and case are starting to yellow but not enough for me to care really.

Do these have an actually snappy feel? The two futaba keyboards I have sound the same as the youtube video / soundcloud thingy above, but there’s really not much tactile feeling at all. I find both the sound and the feeling quite unpleasant.

I’ve seen it speculated that there are two types of futaba switches, one that’s linear-ish (the type I have) but that makes a metallic sound, and one that’s actually quite clicky, with a feel somewhat like a buckling spring. I haven’t found any evidence that sufficiently confirms that these two types are different, and not just different people’s subjective descriptions of the same switch.

That is absolutely different than the futaba switches I’ve tried. I wonder whether there’s a good way to find a keyboard with that very clicky type.

The keys are pretty snappy for the most part.  Some of the switches have seen better days as they are no longer clicky and not as snappy.  I can feel some tactility but not a whole lot.  All and all I will refrain from posting my final thoughts on the switch until I actually use it for a day or so but It doesn't come close to the love I have for buckling spring, clicky space invaders, or SMK alps mount.  Also the case feels pretty flimsy witch is a shame.  The keycaps look really nice to me sans the yellowing and a molding error and I absolutely love the cable.  I still want to track down some repalcement keycaps for it but I'll just say that I'm happy that I only payed 5 dollars for it.

It's a pity the M2 was so problematic, as it looks good and sounds good too.

The EAT-1010 sounds quite nice too. Of course, considering that people mistake some rubber domes for being linear I'm still none the wiser about whether linear Futaba "clicky" switches exist or not. Maybe one day Ascaii will get around to selling his one to me (it's been on sale for ages).

Brought it to work today.  Plugged it in.  It works fine.  Interesting to type on, though missing the enter and shift keys makes it hard to type on.  Haven't typed long enough to form an opinion yet but It feels a bit spongy.  This might be due to the fact some switches are wore out.  It does sound pretty good though but seems to be to loud for work.  It also seems to be rather fatiguing to type on.
