Wow, I can't believe it costs $19 to ship it from Calgary up to Edmonton. You'd think it would be dirt cheap, but for some reason they charge the same price to ship it accross the continent as they do to ship it next door. Damn it.
In the US, there are "flat rate" boxes that always cost the same, no matter. They roughly correspond to the rate for, say, 5 pounds, 2/3 of the way across the country. Light packages to near destinations can go much cheaper, but you can't use the "flat rate" box.
There is not a good mechanism in ebay for anything between their shipping calculator and "same cost to everyone". For example, living near Atlanta, I would like to charge, for shipping a Model M, for example, about $11 in the Southeast, $14 for anywhere else east of the Mississippi River, and $18 (flat rate) for the western part of the country, but there is no way to do that. (And by the way, shipping that Model M to the West Coast, via Priority Mail, without flat rate, is about $23.)
