Seperate tenkeypads and ALT+code characters?
« on: Sat, 13 December 2014, 16:48:10 »
I got a Leopold mechanical tenkeypad from Massdrop recently to help out with some of my more number-intensive data entries and to also regain a capability I lost in transition to a 60% board: the ability to type ALT+numpad number codes to produce uncommon symbols and letters. Unfortunately, it doesn't work! I mean, it works just fine as a numpad for number entry, but I can't ALT+type out any specific characters with it. Can anyone clue me in as to why?

There is a possibility your numpad is not outputting correct scan codes. As in it's scan codes are for the number row. Another possibility is you haven't engaged numlock.

Pretty sure the leopold numpads don't actually us numberpad scancodes but rather number row scancodes, which sucks and defeats a lot of the purpose to buy one. But to make sure, just load up aquakeytest and check the scancodes

Very odd. And I'm certain numlock isn't interfering, it makes no difference whether on or off. I'll go find aquakeytest later. And my numpad has a Tab key I'd probably be okay with switching, but I think you're right, AHK doesn't distinguish which input device it comes from. :(

If you read the Massdrop comment thread, they confirmed that the numpad outputs number row outputs rather than numpad outputs. I picked up a Keycool numpad instead because of this.
