What is this G81-8015 LQZDE ?
« on: Tue, 20 January 2015, 14:40:10 »
I summon the all-knowing gods of Cherry-boards from the depths of this forum ... rise, RISE and tell me what the heck this is:
G81-8015 LQZDE
It kind of looks like a RS 6000 rubberdome ... but why is it called g81? and why can't I find anything about it on the interwebz?
Has it a center stemmed capslock maybe?  :p

And while we're at it: Can someone identify the keyboard in the front? :

Thanks

It has Cherry MY switches and most likely lasered PBT keycaps.

The G81-8XXX series keyboards have that card reader on them. I think they're used as POS boards. They're Cherry boards with MY switches in them as was stated. But the caps will work with MX boards. I've bought a few G81s for the keycaps, including some G81-8XXX series. Sygaldry's guess of lasered PBT caps is probably from this source.

Is there any more pictures of your second keyboard?

G81 boards are a good source of keycaps (most of which will work on MX boards save for some of the modifiers, which have built in stabilizers).

I harvested an L series G81-1800 last month (with the same colored keycaps: beige/gray) and they were most certainly lasered thin PBT - good stuff.

Well, the bottom row modifiers are pretty nice, because you cannot get them from the winkeyless g80/g81s I'm usually harvesting.
Thank you guys. So fast, so accurate .. much wow, such amaze  :thumb:

Sadly I don't have anymore pics of the other board.

Seeing as I'm going to be wrong anyway, I may as well be wrong with a bang: I'm going to go with Fujitsu for the second keyboard.

MY switch, thin lasered PBT, all the 1.25 bottom row is incompatible with MX, it's newer so the stabs may be integrated into the keycap on stabilized keys which are also incompatible with MX. Unless this is incredibly cheap it would be a poor choice.

Bottom row not compatible with MX? Why is that?
Didn't know about the stabs either.
Thx Ivan, you probably just saved me from a worthless purchase  :thumb:

So the only way to get original cherry 1.25 bottom row keycaps is variations of the g80-3000 right?
I'm still sad that the 85|15 Mod Set GB isn't reaching MOQ  :'(

The stems are off-centered

The G81-8XXX series keyboards have that card reader on them.
Or other types of card readers, or interfaced to devices. I had got one without a card reader but a big DIN socket on the side, a DE-9 on the back and some electronics inside that I don't know what it is for.
Not used only as POS. Some workplaces such as banks and police stations use key-cards as a second layer of authentication of users.

Only the front is like a RS-6000, the rest of the case is quite different and might not be compatible with G81-3000 or G80-3000 on the inside.

The stabilised keys are different - modern MY switches have the stabilisers integrated into the switch and caps.
A G81-series keyboard with doubleshot or winkeyless keycaps have stabilised keys that are compatible with Cherry MX, but the Space Bar can be either-or and 1.25u bottom row keycaps are always off-centre.

the bottom row caps either have intergrated stab wire attached to the keycaps themself or have off center stem, which both make them not compatible, the G81-7xxx series is the proper one if my memories are right
