Question for HHKB PRO 2 Type "S" and non Type "S" owners
« on: Tue, 03 March 2015, 12:03:33 »
Could you take a dark grey pro 2 and a white type 2 and just switch the case and key caps to make a dark grey type s? I really like the look of the dark grey and the type S is so recommended that I'm considering doing that and selling the white one after the switch. Thanks!

It requires removing all of the sliders and the dampening material from the type-s as well. Type-s sliders are a little bit longer to deal with the reduced travel. So you can, it's just a bit of work.

I may just keep it in white then. I think that the white/gray looks nice but I'm just not sure if I would actually like it in person and how it would kind of look weird with everything else i have being black. Thanks for the info!

Colored keycaps do wonders for the appearance of the white HHKB. Get yourself the blue esc red control kit, and/or some of those orange/green colored modifiers on elitekeyboards.com

The other alternative is applying one of the several available dampening mods on the pro 2 (dental bands, punched rubber, or flattened landing pads).

Punched rubber or nothing. It doesn't affect travel and dampens as much as everything else

Just for your information, the flattened (ironed) landing pads mod does not affect the travel/feel AT ALL.
