I need a custom in my life.
« on: Wed, 10 June 2015, 09:58:09 »
So I've decided that I can't get by in life on regular boards alone. I've started to sell off a couple of my boards, and more will go when I can rid myself of attachments to inanimate objects...

So, in the mean time, I would like to think about getting a custom. I've always thought that I would get a GON, but with everything going on with GON at the moment, I think it's going to be a while until I get one of those, and with KOTM now up, we see a lot of very nice boards each month.

I do have some prerequisites.

It NEEDS to be ISO, or at least have the option to be ISO Not anymore. But always an option.
Preferably winkeyless.
Ergo clears (62g plz)
No LEDs
Preferably TKL or full size. But I'm open to 75 or 60%
Other layout I'm not bothered. I really like the Lightsaver though... *sploosh*
I'm not much of a solderer, so I would prefer assembled. But I'm sure I can find someone somewhere to build one for me.

That's pretty much it. Just to clarify, this is a recommendation thread, not a WTB thread. I'm fine buying from users, websites, or wherever else. Just maybe not this second :P

Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

If you want ISO you're pretty much just looking at a GON.

You should really give ANSI a try and that's coming from someone who used to use UK ISO only. It took me about a day to get used to it, and I can now use both UK ISO and ANSI fine. The only thing I did was remap £ using AHK. ANSI might be a little hard to get used to, but it makes keysets/keyboards a lot easier.

It's not so much that I can't use ANSI, I actually only have 4 ISO boards out of 10, and I only use one of those regularly. The problem is that that one board is the one I use for work, and I can't change the input language of the computers at work, so I either use an ISO mech or I don't use a mech at all.

Edit: Although I'm not 100% sure on ISO. I could always keep using my WASD and keep the custom at home

If it's too cool at work it may go missing one day. So yeah I'd suggest to keep it at home.

I think it'd be cool if you had a custom something other than cherry made. There are starting to become enough tools that even say a custom monterey blue with PCB and all could be made. Much more interesting than over and over custom cherry when there already are cherry with backlit and NKRO easily available on the market.

The board wouldn't stay at home, I work on shifts and guys take over and sit on my desk at the end of my shift so I take it home with me every day. But yeah, thinking it may mean I've got more options if I go for ANSI, especially for keysets. Plus I can always just swap the springs out for 62g in the clears I already have. Provided it's not a PITA...

You're right, but I don't think I would be confident enough dropping a load of money on a custom build without knowing what switches I'm getting or how they feel, I dunno.

You're right, I looooooooove the Lightsavers.

SPRiT's faceW PCB supports ISO. He has 60, 87, and 104 versions. LEDs are optional, of course. You can purchase switches, stabs, lube, springs, pretty much everything you would need to build one from him.

Wait for the Mira.

You can also wait for an LZ cp to pop up in classifieds if you want something unique.
