Novatouch silencing mod. sticking sound?
« on: Mon, 10 August 2015, 07:18:22 »
So I modded my Novatouch using Spicebar's landing pad mod. I love the sound... except for two keys. My 'd' and '2' key make a slight sticking sound when they return... but only when I bottom out and let the key return to its resting position.  It's not something I really feel... it's just an annoying sound. I've tried taking the board apart and reseating it but that didn't really help. I also tightened the screws a little bit more thinking that maybe that would help... no dice.

Any thoughts you guys have would be helpful.

As I plan on doing this exact same mod as soon as my landing pads arrive, I too would be very interested in a solution to this. Any ideas?

So it seems like the sound is coming from the switch housing itself. I noticed that these two housings wiggle around a little more than the others. Any idea how to remove those? I obviously do not want to break the housing off the plate lol. I vaguely remember seeing a post somewhere where someone did this but I can't find it now.

So it would appear the issue was with the switch housing itself. While performing the mod and pushing the sliders back in some of the housings became a little loose.

I had to remove the housings that stuck and apply a small amount of thick lube around the hole where the housing meets the plate. What a pain though.. While taking the housings out from the plate I noticed that some of the other switches became loose. I basically had to rinse and repeat this process several times until I got all of the them sounding good. If I had to do it over I'd just remove all the housings while doing the mod and just lube them all.
